This absolutely KILLED this Superman movie for me.

In addition to leaving out the words 'the American way,' Superman was BORING. (IMO)

I disagree on the making you think a bit. I love a movie that makes me think... but about the plot, not some social message of the Left. The Prestige makes you work to predict the ending. The pieces are all there, but you have to work to figure it out before the end. And yes there is a bit of a message on human morals in there, but they are mere aspects of the story and consequences of the characters' actions.

"One of the reasons films cost so much is the unions."

Isn't that why they're making more movies in Canada now?

They also don't give a crap about scripts. I miss adult movies. That is one niche from the 70's that was a good thing. The political thriller, the romantic drama... stuff people over 25 actually liked. I blame Lucas and Spielberg for cancelling those out though.

I actually think there were great movies in the 70's. The Godfather's, French Connection, the Conversation, Network, the Candidate. Now we get CRAPPPPP.

Same with tv too. It actually was better in the mid 70's. Take a look at what the top ten shows were say in 1974 pr so compared to 2006. MASH, All in the Family, the Rockford Files, Columbo, Little House on the Prairie, Bob Newhart, Gunsmoke, the Waltons, Hawaii 5-0, Adam-12, Emergency were all on the air then. That was some good tv.

Yeah, that was kind of the point I was trying to make with the murder mystery crack. Maybe it was a little too flippant.

I know what your talking about. I went over to one of their websites can't remember which and they have nothing but potty mouths and I am no prude.

Yes, Departed is gruesome. And language is cruder than I have heard in awhile.

The story keeps you drawn in (a police informant planted in the mob and his counterpart...a mob guy planted as a police officer.)

But somehow it's unsatisfying in the end. Many questions are unanswered.

Obligatory "Firefly" pic to post on a thread about quality entertainment:

When the suits cancel a show like this but greenlight a movie like "Brokeback Mountain," you know there are some major issues in the decision making process.

Oh, and honorable mention to the new "Battlestar Galactica." Terrific show.

Do you think, if you see it again, it will make more sense? Or are they gearing up for a sequel?

Not quite. Per boxofficemojo, $83 mil. for BBM vs. $77 mil. for MOTP.

The politically risible Mr. Baldwin gives a great performance in THE DEPARTED.

That was Alien 3. The cursing got so silly towards the end that my girlfriend and I began to make fun of it. It was really ridiculous.

That director has gone on to make some much better movies, but that one was just awful!

I'm with you. I much prefer clean movies (cut out the obscenities, please. There are words in the dictionary that are equally expressive. Hollywood writers should try using them).

For years Hollywood has not only disgusted domestic movie goers,
but has projected an image of The Ugly American to audiences abroad.

It took Bill Clinton to reverse foreign disdain for American culture
and to boost our favorable ratings into the stratosphere.

Question: Will Democrats elected in 2006 follow the Clinton model
to get others around the world to love us? You vote. You decide.

Last weekend I went to see Scorsese's new film "The Departed" and it was the best film of the past few years. I plan on seeing it at least 3 more times in the theater.

I loved it! No kids though.

I'm married to a soldier. That really is how most of them speak. Any military movie without the F-bomb is simply unrealistic.

For what it's worth, I'm a Vietnam veteran--today's soldiers cuss much less than we did.

I also happen to think, if presented with an acid-bleeding, wall-crawling, intelligent, vicious bug the size of a large cougar my own mother would say, "F-me!"

Ya think? :)

Rent Saints and Soldiers. A small group of GI survivors of the Malmedy Massacre trying to make their way back to allied lines. It's a small film with a $50 million dollar look thanks to hundreds of authentic looking, well equipped German reenactors.

Cost? An unbelievable $1 million.

A lot of people do actually talk like that. Some of them don't have the sense or decency to tone it down when in the company of children, and adults who don't care to hear it. Don't bother me at all, but some people aren't cool with all that cussin'.
