This is odd.

Why would they worry about them not showing up? Do they think privately that blacks are only interested in issues that affect them only--- and not the country at large?

Do they think that black Americans are lazy?

Dare we think the unthinkable? No, wait, yes--it's RACISM!!!

Well, I didn't read the story, but I personally know a couple of blue collar black couples who are fed up with the democrat's stand on immigration. They are worried that low and lower middle income jobs are being stolen from them. Is that angle being covered anywhere?

The Reps have missed a golden opportunity on the the immigration issue. It cuts to the core of the dem constituency, i.e., blacks and union members. The Dem talking point is that they favor the McCain/WH position of comprehensive immigration reform. Nevermind that the Senate Reps voted against the bill 32-23 and the Dems voted for it 38 to 4.

The House is the last bastion against the legalization of the 11 to 20 million illegal immigrants and the institution of a guest worker program. If the House goes Dem, the McCain bill will pass and the WH will sign it. This will cause a major split within the GOP and may result in a third party for 2008.

Democrats fear disillusionment among blacks almost as much as they fear enlightenment among blacks.

The more highly educated any group gets, the more likely they are to be self-motivating and self-supporting. Therefore the less likely they are to need or want Democrats.

Actually Cardin is a "nice guy". This is 1 of the reasons I fear him. Plus he's been a constant name in this state for 20 years. People just know his name, and you know the idiots who get to vote just because they recognize a name will be out there.

Cardin is the white, Jewish candidate handpicked by the Dem party to take the place of Sarbanes instead of Mfume. It was a very close primary where voting was along racial lines. Blacks make up almost 40% of registered Dem voters. Nice guy or not, Cardin was a slap in the face to a very loyal Dem constituency.

The opposite happened in the case of Major Owens in NY. The NYT was upset that blacks and hispanics united to select one of their own to replace Owens instead of their candidate, a white, Jewish liberal who was running in a heavily black/hispanic district. Stephen Solarz lost for that very same reason. Eventually, blacks and hispanics are going to start demanding a bigger share of the pie. Look for Feinstein and Boxer to be the last non-hispanic senators from California. The worm is turning.

Every time there's an election and the DumocRATs lose, they claim that it's rigged. So now your voters are becoming disallusioned.... Surprise, Surprise.

Every election I get my marching orders from Karl Rove on how to go disrupt minority voting in Ohio. The past couple of elections they were pretty crappy assignments, I was just supposed to go around to black voting districts and run around acting scary to chase away black voters.

All that happened is I kept getting my butt kicked by big black guys (and some pretty big black women, too).

I complained to Karl about it, so this year he sent me a "Mathew Lesko" costume, and I'm supposed to stand a couple blocks away from the polling place and trick the potential voters into listening to my "free money" pitch until the polls are closed.

I will say it out loud: BLACK VOTERS WILL GIVE THEIR VOTES TO THE GOP IN RECORD NUMBERS AND THE VOTES THE DEMOCRATS DO GET FROM BLACKS WILL BE UNUSUALLY LOW!

The alarming number of Black voters supporting Republicans don't show up in polls because the Black respondents are NOT telling the truth to the pollsters. They are feeling guilty about not supporting the Democrats. If Mike Steele is getting 33% of Blacks to "SAY" they are voting for him, it is NOT a stretch to believe he will actually get as much as 38%, maybe even 40%. If that happens it is all over for Cardin.

It's a good point that Queasy Mfume was in a pretty tight race (no pun).

I hope it does backfire on Dems, but I doubt it. I'm that cynical.

We'll see. Erlich was elected against a Kennedy. I hope the black community sends the Dem leadership a message in Maryland. They are the most loyal constituency and are just given the crumbs.
