McCain: Send 20,000 more troops to Iraq

Republican Sen. John McCain, a possible 2008 presidential candidate, said Friday the United States should send another 20,000 troops to Iraq.

A member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, McCain said increasing U.S. forces would require expanding the standing Army and Marine Corps - a step the Bush administration has resisted. He also reiterated his opposition to a hasty U.S. withdrawal.

"If we leave ... the fighting will evolve into chaos there," McCain told reporters after speaking at an event for local Republican candidates.

Reporters asked him to elaborate on his statement last week in Iowa that more combat troops are needed in Iraq to quell a "classic insurgency."

"Another 20,000 troops in Iraq, but that means expanding the Army and the Marine Corps," he said.

I guess he was out of the news all week and felt the need to chime in with a statement. Notice me, please. Invite me on your Sunday shows.

McLame was/is a fly boy. I'll acknowledge his opinions about the air war but he knows diddly about troops on the ground other than what he hears or what is politically expedient for him to say. He was best suited to be strapped, by himself, in a plane. I doubt he has/ever had the skills to motivate and lead a group of soldiers/Marines on the ground.

McCain knows very well that criticism of the "thousands of failures", to quote Condi, will be met with indignation by the Bushbots! How dare he!

Will Bush dump Rumsfeld after the election? Hard to predict.

John may be right about more troops on the other hand we will see more body bags. That said, here is what McCain and every other politician should be jumping to the mike for - BORDER CLOSURE NOW!!

My letter this morning to every one of my elected, Homeland Security and President Bush - I just changed the names and sent it.

Dear Senator McCain,

As our border problem with Mexico escalates with the Drug Cartels, we find that Hugo Chavez has announced he will aid anyone trying to enter the United States – an empty threat? Maybe. Who wins the coming election will have little impact on the determination of our enemies entering this country illegally. Many OTM cross daily un-apprehended and evaporate into America awaiting the day to destroy as best they can, this country.

All the sizzle about the under funded fence has swept the politically incorrect solution under the political rug and off the radar of the citizens. From the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, all ports of entry should be closed to all but those with the up to date proper papers which should show destination, length of time here as well as nation of birth etc. There is no other nation that will allow such easy entry as America, certainly not Mexico or Canada, our immediate neighbors.

Regardless of the political out cry of such a move, I am asking you, an arm of my government, to immediately use your power to urge, nay demand, closure of our Southern Border with Mexico for the security of America. In my view with the situation along that border, you have no other choice.

I have written Senator Kyl, President Bush and Homeland Security the same request. I am aware of the unpopularity of such a move. Keeping America safe and strong is not a popularity contest - closing the border is imperative for the safety and security of my country, something that should have been done long ago, should now be done immediately. Close Our Borders.

Sincerely,
xxxxxx

If the generals want more troops THEY will ask for more troops - McCain is grandstanding. The politicians are ducking the WAR ON OUR BORDER GOING ON NOW. No other county in the world lets people in without Papers and if caught entering a country illegally YOU ARE ARRESTED AND GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT. Neither neighbor, Canada nor Mexico lets this illegal activity go on. Please contact ALL you elected via Fax NOW and tell them to get serious and CLOSE our BORDER to MEXICO.

20,000??

The "magic" number??

How does the idiot figure 20K??

Why not 15K...or 30K...or 20,113?

Just spout gibberish...never mind giving a reason that can be challenged.

Sheeeeeesh!

Send 20,000 more car bomb targets. Good plan, there, McLame.

How about we send 20,000 more troops into Sadr City and capture or kill Muqtada al-Sadr, then see what Prime minister Nouri al-Maliki has to say about that?

I would prefer that McPain be drafted as a private in the Army, stuck in the infantry and sent to Falluja, Ramadi, or the Sadr slums of Baghdad. At least, no matter what happens, we can still accept his war hero status, while keeping him out of the dangerous political mischief he creates here at home.
