Another woman, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former Dutch MP, had the procedure performed on her. She has spoken out quite fiercely against the practice (and other human rights violations against women in Islamic countries). The women who do survive it and manage to escape from that culture usually end up being very strong and inspirational people.
Man, I really wish I could remember the model's name...maybe I'll try to look it up.
