Charles Schumer Confident Democrats Will Win Senate

The chairman of the Senate Democratic campaign expressed confidence Sunday his party can win a Senate majority in the Nov. 7 elections, calling the vote "more and more a referendum on George Bush."

"We're right on the edge. Every week things get better and better," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. "With the exception of one candidate, no other Republican candidate uses a four-letter word - B-U-S-H. They're running away from him."

Democrats need to take six seats to gain power in the 100-member Senate.

Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., who heads the Republican Senate campaign effort, predicted that GOP will retain its Senate majority, saying voters would not want a Democrat-controlled chamber that she said would weaken the economy by supporting tax increases.

"President Bush's name is not on the ballot," Dole said. "Our candidates are talking about issues important in their states, such as corruption in New Jersey. All politics is local."

Both parties are focusing on voter turnout efforts to gain the edge in what they acknowledge will be a close election.

In the House, Democrats need to gain 15 seats to become the majority in the 435-member House.

House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, dismissed the notion that the House races would be a national referendum, describing it as "435 individual races all around the country."

"The issues are different in each of these races," he said. "What we're going to do is continue to work hard right up until election day and mobilize every vote that we can."

But Schumer cited growing voter discontent with President Bush's war in Iraq. He criticized the administration's "stay the course" approach that has been supported by the Republican-controlled Congress.

"This election is becoming more and more a referendum on George Bush, his failed policies both overseas and at home with a rubber stamp Congress," he said.

Dole and Schumer appeared on "Fox News Sunday," while Boehner spoke on ABC's "This Week."

Wasn't he confident going into the rats' 2004 landslide loss, too? Doesn't mean a thing.

Also, if Steele wins, CS could be more easily investigated for snooping on Americans.

I don’t believe anything they say anymore.

Now if Chucky had put some of his personal money on the table to back up this gust of “global warming” I might put some credence in this. But, since he didn’t - it is nothing more than an attempt to create some news “buzz”.

Saw another thread where the claim was being made that Lieberman would help the GOP retain control of the Senate.

If Lieberman is the only thing that stands in the way of the Dems controlling the Senate, then the Dems control the Senate.

You know, at this point, I want the Republicans to win for no other reason that we could go in those BIG MOUTH Libs face and say, Na na na na na. Ha ha we won...you lost...You thought you were going to win, but you lost...HAHAHAHAHAHAH.

I'm watching last night's SNL, and I swear it's a DNC commercial...they are so sure they're going to win. And not only win, but win by a landslide....It makes me so freaking angry.....I hope every Republican is as angry as I am.

I'll bet they're kinda mad that they got trapped into going after Foley. I'm sure they were saving it for when hillary was running. But Studds was gonna die. It would be all over the news.

The Foley bit put the kabash on saying "bad things about the dead"....so Studds passed with hardly a notice of his "immorality" as related to his "doing a Page" by this blatant homosexual.

The Dems then decided to "backlash" Hastert and Reynolds. Very Rovian.....except Hastert and Reynolds ARE NOT Dems. They are outstanding leaders.

Hillary never said BOO......But she has now come out for homosexual marriage and the NY Dems are pushing for it. She has to conform...at least temporarily.

The problem is that Bubba signed the Marriage Protection Act AND "Don't Ask, Don't tell" policies. For every gay vote she picked up, she lost 10.

The Dem's always seem to forget about "voter apathy". They keep harping that they will win. Many on their side will find it easier to make the excuse " we are going to win anyway, so they do not need my vote".
