"Here comes the smackdown"
I doubt it... Bush will probably say he took it as a joke about himself.

What is it about the Freeper class of 98 that they seem to think rabid negativity is some how a sign of intellectual merit?
It isn't at all a sign of wisdom you know. You can find the same quality of juvenile posturing confused for intellect ability represented by this knee jerk negativity in any high school lunch room.

No. He won't. The President takes our troops and their service to this country way too seriously to allow Kerry to get away with this. I suspect this will be must-see TV.
To: babygene
No he will not. President Bush already released a statement that he will mention later on in live Rally in Georgia demanding that Kerry apologizes to the troops and that what Kerry said was shameful and insulting.

No, Tony Snowe already mentioned Kerry's remarks this morning.
Tony may have even said that Kerry should apologize to the troops. It was really a dare, and Kerry took the bait. He has given the president the opening that he needed to label the Democrats as unpatriotic.

I want to think you are wrong, but I suspect you are correct.
It's a crapshoot. I think Bush will try to be magnanimous and, in doing so, will throw Kerry a lifeline and get him out of the mess he's in.
That's why things have devolved to The Stupid Party vs. The Evil Party.
