Chris Matthews has been blowing hard with the proposition that Kerry's comments were taken out of context. Matthews has also backed the contention that the context of the speech was about Bush's failures and that therefore Kerry was referring to Bush not the Soldiers. It dosen't make sense, especially when you consider that Kerry prefaced his comments by saying exactly "I am here to discuss Education but before I get into that (then he makes his quote about studying). SO........... whatever the context of the speech, Kerry himself exempeted these comments by setting it apart and saying "before I get into that...." It is clear that when you do get into the context, that there is no way to twist this statement (or botched joke as Kerry states) and turn this into a comment on Bush and not the soldiers. Verbatum he stated to the students that YOU need to study.....and if not YOU (Not Bush) will end up in Iraq. IN SHORT THOSE THAT END UP IN IRAQ ARE THE LOOSERS IN SOCIETY.

If this is a botched joke, he should be called to task and unbotch it and restate it where it comes out that it is Bush that didn't study and Bush that didn't work hard and Bush that ended up in Iraq. (side note, I believe it was Bush that did study and got a MBA from Harvard and got higher grades than Kerry, therefore, the "not studying" or getting good grades and getting Smart would point more towards Kerry than Bush). HE IS A PATHETIC LIAR that won't account for his own comments.

BTW, is a joke an excuse for denegrating a large group of Americans. DO YOU THINK that if a Republican was "Joking" and used the N-word and later said it was a "botched joke" that it would be excused without and apology or even with an apology for that matter.

I've heard a few liberal shills making this point about context. Well the context does not change what Kerry said. It stands on its own. And the claim that this speech was an attack on Bush is even more tortured since he was campaigning for California governors candidate Phil Angelides. Angelides is running against Schwarzenegger, not Bush.
