Here is the initiative:
A PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE STATE CONSTITUTION TO BAN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PROGRAMS THAT GIVE PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT TO GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS BASED ON THEIR RACE, GENDER, COLOR, ETHNICITY OR NATIONAL ORIGIN FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION OR CONTRACTING PURPOSES
The proposed constitutional amendment would:
Ban public institutions from using affirmative action programs that give preferential treatment to groups or individuals based on their race, gender, color, ethnicity or national origin for public employment, education or contracting purposes. Public institutions affected by the proposal include state government, local governments, public colleges and universities, community colleges and school districts.
Prohibit public institutions from discriminating against groups or individuals due to their gender, ethnicity, race, color or national origin. (A separate provision of the state constitution already prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin.)
Should this proposal be adopted? YES or NO.
Just mark the little "yes" box.
(I hope to hear the screams from A2, Lansing and Detroit when this passes!)
I'll be here in AA on the 8th. I'm planning to eat breakfast out that day to hear the murmurs of discontent. Should make for a lovely morning.
I'm kind of equidistant from Ann Arbor and Lansing so I expect to hear "the lamentations of their women" in stereo.
While I'm blown-away this got on the ballot, a'tall.
...simply dumbstruck.
BAMN (By Any Means Necessary) has gone to great lengths to prevent it. Even death threats are in their arsenal.
Doesn't surprise me, the Liberal-Socialist left destroyed Newt Gingrich when he attempted, basically, the same thing only on a nation wide scale.
Remember?
I realize I'm "preaching to the chorus" saying this; however, I'm compelled to reiterate the entire *strategy* of the Liberal-Socialist movement seems based upon keeping this kind of issue -- *&* CC, Property Tax relief, etc ad infinitum -- OFF ballots to begin with.
Instead maneuvering said issue(s) into the hands of unelected bureaucrats who're *appointed* by -- & in the pocket of -- present or past Liberal-Socialist pols.
In the event something does squeak through, make it to the ballot & go against their will?
That's when their Liberal-Socialist judiciary snaps into action & overrules the majority.
Ask any Californian about that, they've seen this modus operandi played-out many times.
Bottom line's the same old worn-out shtick & it makes me sick, I swear.
Our Republic's citizens never get a chance to cast their vote on issues they SHOULD have all the say, not any one or group of people. { /rant }
Anyway to all Michiganders, a tip of my hat.
HTH they managed getting this on the ballot should be shared with we Wisconsinites.
...& not be kept a secret. ;^)
Michigan is seen as a blue state but when given a chance to vote directly on the issues we almost always go scarlet red without fail. See CCW and same sex marriage.
you'll probably hear them from alot of men too. izzo (MSU) and amaker (UM) both want prop 2 to fail.
odd stance coming from guys that recruit based 110% on ability, and don't care about "diversity."
And gov't funded abortions.
Oh don't I know, cc.
I'm married to a rabid Wolverine fan as her & her people are from MI, so I get it all.
Even so the key to what you said, is: "...when given a chance to vote directly on the issues we almost always go scarlet red without fail."
I think [that] could be said of just about every damned state in the union & the Liberal-Socialists know that, too.
Hence?
...the focus of their entire strategy.
For me, I see one of the biggest wastes of American tax dollars at all levels of government and public education is the constant socialist push for 'diversity'.
I am a big supporter of anti-discrimination in many cases, however, with the government refusing to be color blind in its hiring practices, the best skilled workers, lowest bid contractors / suppliers, etc. are placed at an disproportionate disadvantage which makes no sense whatsoever in a country that supports capitalism founded with a Constitution that stresses liberty and freedom.
So what is it with those people in power that think competition is bad? I conclude the dumbing down of the government workforce has led to the same results as the dumbing down in the public school systems.
And people wonder why so many jobs have farmed out overseas?
Americans use to be the most efficient, most creative and highly skilled work force in the world.
Thank goodness the people in Michigan have taken the initiative to turn the tables on one crippling aspect of society and the government's degradation of capitalism.
You would not believe the lengths that they went throught to try to keep this off the ballot. It went through several courts before they finally gave up.
Now, they don't even try to debate the merits of the proposal. They just go after the the MCRI group that gathered the signatures. Some of the worst slandering and character attacks I've heard this cycle came from One United Michigan (the anti-Prop 2 group).
As for myself, I will proudly add a tally to the Yes column.
MGY
Oh yes I would. {g}
"It went through several courts before they finally gave up."
They never gave up, my friend.
Merely passed the "baton" to their judiciary branch to rule ( Fill In The Blank ) as "unconstitutional".
At first their target's ruled illegal to the state constitution, and if/when that fails then it's kicked upstairs & made a federal issue.
But give up, never.
Liberal-Socialists never give up, never go away.
Much like bad weather they're always with us *&* always work incrementally.
Always. ;^)
"Now, they don't even try to debate the merits of the proposal. They just go after the the MCRI group that gathered the signatures."
Legally, i.e. civilly?
"Some of the worst slandering and character attacks I've heard this cycle came from One United Michigan (the anti-Prop 2 group)."
I'll bet, but ya gotta love their name though.
So American.
So united. {g}
"As for myself, I will proudly add a tally to the Yes column."
And you Sir may call Landru your friend.
...in the truest sense of the word. ;^)
I know I'll be hearing them on my street. My house has the only vote yes on 2 yard sign on the block.
