Hot for martyrdom

Dr. Tawfik Hamid doesn't tell people where he lives. Not the street, not the city, not even the country. It's safer that way. It's only the letters of testimony from some of the highest intelligence officers in the Western world that enable him to move freely. This medical doctor, author and activist once was a member of Egypt's Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya (Arabic for "the Islamic Group"), a banned terrorist organization. . .

(snip)

. . . I can tell you what it is not about. Not about Israel, not about Iraq, not about Afghanistan. They are mere excuses. Algerian Muslim fundamentalists murdered 150,000 other Algerian Muslims, sometimes slitting the throats of children in front of their parents. Are you seriously telling me that this was because of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians or American foreign policy?"

(snip)

. . . He's exasperated now, visibly angry at what he sees as a willful Western foolishness. "Stop asking what you have done wrong. Stop it! They're slaughtering you like sheep and you still look within. You criticize your history, your institutions, your churches. Why can't you realize that it has nothing to do with what you have done but with what they want."

Fascinating interview with a man who trained under al-Zawahiri and who is, according to the article, "determined to tell a complacent North America what he knows about fundamentalist Muslim imperialism."

But he also talks about how radical Sunni Islam has come from Saudi Arabai (Wahhabism). Why do we keep making nice to the Saudis?

The Bush dynasty has always been comfortable putting profits before patriotism. Prescott Bush, Bush Senior’s father, extended credit to Adolph Hitler and supplied him with raw materials during Word War II. The U. S. seized his assets under the Trading with the Enemy Act, but grandfather Bush found other ways to replenish the family coffers.

I was enjoying the article until I read this bit. This bit of intellectual prevarication leads me to suspect much of what else I read.

Don't be afraid about the truth regarding Blue Blood ancestors; Prescott Bush may indeed have done these things (I don't know). What is most critical at this juncture is where this President stands on the War ot Terror, not what his grandpa did. The main subject in this article obviously has something we need to hear; a failure to not understand or to disregard your enemy will end in our own defeat.

I was the way it was worded. From all that I've read a company in which Prescott was a partner did work with Fritz Thyssen's firms. Thyssen was a German industrialist who early on supported the Nazis. But that is worlds apart from writing checks as "Pay to the order of: Adolf Hitler".

I do not disagree in the slightest about the original article and it's amazing (or maybe not so amazing) more Freepers haven't commented.

See my post to Amelie. It's the semantics of what was written that concerns me. If the author couldn't be intellectually honest enough to say what actually happened vice "giving credit to Hitler", then I stop giving him/her the benefit of the doubt about everything else. There are all sorts of plausible explanations for the Harriman thing that is woefully different from the Bush relationship with the Saudis. The Harriman thing cheapens the evidence of the Bush family dealings with the Saudis.

I agree, that is I think it's amazing. I was led to this via NRO the corner blog. It's very good and thanks Jedidah for posting it. I was about to do the same thing.

Actually, this guy should be on every news magazine. He's a real (ex) jihadi, telling the truth, and of course he's pointing out the obvious, but yet the West is deaf.

Truly it is amazing. And sad.

Glad you found this thread, Jocon307. I was amazed, and somewhat disappointed, to see that the only immediate replies when I first posted it were looney-tune replies about the Bushes.

Now, a couple of weeks later, after seeing the results of the election, I've just decided that we're a nation of pollyannas. We won't face the truth: a bunch of fascist murderers are determined to kill us all, and they may well succeed because admitting the problem is just too unpleasant for our wussy electorate.

"We won't face the truth: a bunch of fascist murderers are determined to kill us all..."

So it would appear. That was the sad lesson I took from the election. Sadly Bush and others, with their blindness to our border security problems aren't really getting it either, I'm afraid. And the Euros, with their pretty much open abandonment of their own culture,....oy veh, it's enough to give a person a headache!

"WE" don't keep making nice with the sods.
The people in D.C., whom get paid off by the sods keep making nice with them.
