Nov. 3, 2006 — Four days before the election, as Republican candidates are battling to save their seats in Congress amidst a backlash over the war in Iraq, Vice President Dick Cheney told ABC News the administration is going "full speed ahead" with its policy.

"We've got the basic strategy right," Cheney told George Stephanopoulos in an interview to be broadcast Sunday on "This Week."

Watch the full interview this Sunday morning, including the vice president's candid comments on John Kerry's gaffe this week and Hillary Clinton.

October was one of the deadliest months in Iraq for U.S. troops. Cheney said that while the policy may not be popular, "This is the right thing for us to be doing."

In the most recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, 57 percent of Americans said that the war was not worth fighting. The poll also showed President Bush's job approval rating dropped to 37 percent, the second-lowest mark of his presidency.

HUH??????

I thought he had to go up a hundred points to even get to 37.

You mean all this time he's been ABOVE 37? After like 700 consecutive "lowest approval ratings ever"?

Vice President Cheney ROCKS......Mrs. Cheney ROCKS too!

I believe history will prove them correct on national security, it's unbelieveable to me that so many don't see the writing on the wall.

Well from Rasmussen the President's strongly improves have been going up which is a good sign and the overall positive numbers have been holding steady in the 40-42 range for sometime. Also even though the Democrats have a 6 point party identification edge that means little because independents have been swelling as many conservatives have shifted their identification to independent over the border and other issues. There is a huge segment of voters that have self excluded themselves from polling. You see this in the Burns/Tester, Dewine/Brown, and Keane/Menendez races. Conservative voters are selecting themselves out of polling and causing an appearance of a shift. This bodes very well for Michael Steele in MD. I will venture he is going to win by almost 10 points come election day. I also think that Democrats are going to face a really sobering reality when the numbers are finally counted. I think the place they will come up the most short is the Senate. I also don't think the negative feelings about Iraq do not equate with throwing the election to Democrats. The Kerry gaff and the upcoming conviction of Saddam will have driven this point home on election day.

You are exactly right with a lot of Conservatives separating themselves from being identified as Republicans and would rather be Independent but will vote Republican because of lack of other options at this time. I believe that the Rats may win 8-11 seats in the House and 3 in the Senate and will help accomplish a couple positives, Republicans keep charge and some RINOs are weeded out.

I would love to see the President call a press conference for Wednesday. At the appointed time he walks out with the VP on one side and SecDef on the other. He looks at the cameras, says "We're still here", then turns around and walks away.

Isn't it interesting that in CT a blue as you can get state Joe Lieberman is shamelessly supporting the War effort and he is running 10-14 points ahead. There are several indicators that illustrate that the media has it all wrong on this election. Michael Steele is another example. He is an extraordinary candidate but if things really were so bad for the GOP I doubt he'd be running so well. What this shows is that the Democrats have failed to "nationalize" the election as the GOP did in 94. Kerry has actually produced exactly the opposite effect. Hopefully the Kerry effect won't wear off before Tuesday.
