The Queensland Liberals have called for crocodiles to be culled because people are being eaten.
The party's annual state convention in Brisbane has passed a motion put forward by Senator Ian McDonald for crocodile numbers to be reduced in populated areas.
One delegate, Brett Blade, told the convention that lives are at risk
"You can't allow crocodiles to come into the main street of Cairns and eat people - and that is exactly what's happening," he said.
"If you go up north, believe me they have come into town and they have walked down main streets.
"It also helps create a new industry where we can export crocodile shoes and hand bags - so we're making money out of it."
There have been sightings of sharks in the Mississippi hundreds of miles upriver from the mouth, but the sight of a croc or a gator strutting down main street would be a tad unnerving. No drunken loitering on the corners in Cairns I assume. And has anyone been eaten inside city limits so far?
That I can't tell you. BUT I'm not going up there to find out... :-)

Lard ass can be explained by the mythical and romantic aura conveyed on the Kennedy family by the career and death of the handsome young president.
Kerry is harder to explain. The most straightforward explanation is that he emerged from the idiotic Senate hearings in 1971 as a prominent anti-war veteran at a time when America had mixed feelings about Vietnam, repulsion at the ugliness and cost of war but guilt about the young men who were asked to carry its costs. An unseemly third rate self promoter like Kerry played perfectly into this unhealthy environment, aided and abetted by a uniformly liberal local media.
Massachusetts largest ethic group is Italian-American, followed by Irish. (Until recently, Kerry was Irish. Now it turns how his Grandfather was Cohn, not Kerry. Oy vai!) Both groups are somewhat reflexively anti-Republican because of what they, or at least their grandparents, preceived as the anti-immigrant, anti-romanist reputation of the Republican party.
It's always good to point out that in Australia the Liberals are the conservatives. :)
