Oh, no! I was grown and in my 40s before I found out that most people eat the white seeds.
We had always gotten the green pepitos from Mexico here, all fried and salty. I was really disappointed the first time I did home-baked pumpkin seeds, until I split one open and found the little pepitos inside.
But it takes FOREVER to shell them.
I asked sis whether she was going to toast her pumpkin seeds from her Halloween pumpkins and now I can't remember what she said. If she said she might, I bet she doesn't know how labor intensive they are.
Think I'll take a pass on making my own unless I get really, really bored.
