Reynolds: 'Military Paper' Calling For Rummy Resignation Is Gannett Operation
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

On this morning's Meet The Press, Tim Russert tried to pass off the editorial in the "Army Times" and sister publications calling for Donald Rumsfeld's noggin as having some special significance. RNCC Chairman Tom Reynolds didn't let him get away with it. Reynolds exposed those so-called "military newspapers" as nothing more than cogs in the Gannett chain, a member-in-good-standing of the MSM whose flagship paper is the reliably-liberal USA Today.

Russert flashed the panel of the editorial shown here, and asked Reynolds:

Video here.

"Do you believe it would be helpful [to have] a change at the top of the Pentagon?"

That's when Reynolds unleashed this salvo:

"First of all, the Army Times editorial is written by its Gannett-owned newspaper, which is well-positioned [on the 'anti' side] in other editorial comment relative to the war. And so the editorial writers may be coming from Virginia rather from the military, particularly because it's owned by Gannett."

Incoming, Tim!

Aside: For more on the Gannett connection and the way the MSM has spun the editorial, see items here and here by NewsBusters John Stephenson and Michael Bates. See here for the Pentagon's rebuttal of the editorial.

Is is just me or lately doesn't it seem Tim Russert's personal hygeine is lacking? He looks like he hasn't showered, his eyes are swollen from lack of sleep or water and his hair looks dirty and uncombed.

His clothing even seems like it was picked up off the floor and worn.

The contrast between his guests and himself is startling.

No, it's not just you. Tim, the tater head, should really undergo an exorcism. The devil himself has taken him over, mentally and physically, to the dark side. It really is spooky...

He should have a valet 24/7, if his artistry is getting the better of him. /s

No matter that his politics are not mine. And no matter that he's part of the MSM that I detest so much.

He seems like an interesting fellow and he loves his dad.

Somebody who has such high visibilty in a 24/7 new cycle shouldn't look like he hasn't slept in two days. I hope he's okay.

All retired and active military should request that the BX, PX and Ships Stores ban these anti-American publications from their stores. I will.

What upsets me the most is the blatant attempt by Gannett, the day before the mid-term elections, to use the Military Times family of newspapers to influence the election for the Democrats. The Times family is being represented as a group of military papers. This is not true.

Gannett, publisher of USA Today, is so Democrat oriented, that a donkey should appear on its papers' mastheads.

Also disturbing is the timing of the news of the editorial just before the weekend news cycle - an obvious attempt to spike counter-editorial opinion.

The Army Times had sunk to the position of a partisan rag, and I shall never buy another copy. I shall encourage all to cancel their subscriptions.

They should be ashamed.
