Wilson calls for federal election monitors after ballots run out

Incumbent Republican Congresswoman Heather Wilson is calling for federal monitors from a US House committee to keep tabs on voting in New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District.

Wilson made that announcement after a heavily Republican Northeast Heights precinct with roughly 2,500 registered voters ran out of ballots within two hours of the polls opening.

Precinct 603 was supposed to receive 1,500 ballots but only had 150 on hand when voting began at 7:00 am. When ballots ran out at about 9:00 am, voters were asked to leave their names and numbers and told they would be called when new ballots arrived.

“Now they are turning away voters at the polls and denying them the right to vote,” said Wilson at a morning news conference. “These voters were not offered provisional ballots as is required by federal law. That is a violation of the federal voting rights act.”

Mike McFadden, one of those called back to vote when new ballots arrived, questioned whether there were political motives behind the ballot shortage.

“I’m just wondering if it has something to do with the election itself,” said McFadden. “[Precinct] 603 is primarily a Republican precinct.”

County Clerk Mary Herrera, a Democrat, blamed the Secretary of State’s office for the shortage of ballots saying they adjusted the number based upon early voting and absentee ballot numbers.

The Secretary of State’s office fired back blaming the county clerk for not providing enough inventory.

Madrid operative was taunting the voters who were turned away. Typical leftist scum.

DUmmies and dem legislature in new mexico switched from the boggey man diebold to paper ballots.

Dem county clerk and dem sec of state then give few ballots to gop precinct.

If this happened in a dem area it would be fbi investigation and cnn top of the hour all day.

Henry Kissenger once observed that Democrats are guilty of that which they accuse Republicans of perpetrating.

I vote early in NM, but I always figure that just gives them more time to find enough off-setting "votes" or simply misplace the ones they don't approve of.

I call it pre-seeding. They accuse you first so you sound like a playground crybaby when you call them on their misdeeds.

Herrera didn't worry about those missing 1,350 ballots until manyana. It's the Mexican way. Why in the world did a heavily Republican area have a Democrat county official in charge of voting and didn't check on what she was doing? Folks, we have to wake up and smell the fraud in these elections.

Richardson and New Mexico has been, for years, the most blatant, in your face, state for voter fraud = they don't even bother to be clever about it = AND they get away with it EVERY election.

Why in the heck aren't there a plethora of 'checkers' all over that state ahead of time?

So I suppose that the S of S office reported 2,350 early votes or absentee ballots had been cast or received?

Riiight...

Have a judge order the polls to stay open longer at that location. It works for democrats.

Asked for 1500, got 150? There's a typo there somewhere.

Oh yeah, New Mexico is about half a degree better than Nicaragua. The state switched from machines to paper ballots this year. Just when the rest of country is going electronic, King Bill (Gov. Richardson) decides that it would be easier to fix the election with paper ballots.

What a cluster****! I'm filling out my ballot when some dude bumps my little plastic table and causes me to draw a line across it. So, I had to redo my entire ballot. Voting took twice as long as usual.

My father said it was so dark at his plastic cubby hole and the printing on the ballot so small that he could hardly read the ballot.

I have a bad feeling about this one. I think the pubbies are going to surprise all across the nation while King Bill is fixing it for perhaps the dumbest person running for Congress ever - Patsy "what are ethics?" Madrid. What a shame!

Early voting has been very heavy, so 1500 might not have been too off the mark. 150? That's outright fraud.
