Just so everyone is clear on what the law says:
-CITE-
18 USC Sec. 600 01/03/05
-EXPCITE-
TITLE 18 - CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
PART I - CRIMES
CHAPTER 29 - ELECTIONS AND POLITICAL ACTIVITIES
-HEAD-
Sec. 600. Promise of employment or other benefit for political activity
-STATUTE-
Whoever, directly or indirectly, promises any employment, position, compensation, contract, appointment, or other benefit, provided for or made possible in whole or in part by any Act of Congress, or any special consideration in obtaining any such benefit, to any person as consideration, favor, or reward for any political activity or for the support of or opposition to any candidate or any political party in connection with any general or special election to any political office, or in connection with any primary election or political convention or caucus held to select candidates for any political office, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
The country would be quite different if it was enforced IMO.
If you offer somebody a freakin sandwich or a pack of smokes to get them to vote, you have violated Federal law. It's quite clear.
This would put half of the City of Chicago and Cook County government in jail.
It's time there were some prosecutions for things like these. It's time we cleaned up our act, all of us, pubbies and dims.
I quit voting, partly because here in Washington state, one is never 2dead2vote. The process is flawed and corrupt. Those who do these types of things think the result is more important than the process. They are wrong.
And then when it's all over you just see them on the tube smiling and patting each other on the back and making a billion promises...
It's really disgusting.
I'm sorry you quit voting. Hopefully adequate change can be implemented to restore your faith in the system.
