It's still useful, though. If his people listen to him.

Very useful. The less propaganda the better.

Maybe the Iraqi govt is negotiating with him to resume leadership in the Sunni triangle after the executions." "Great Minds..."
Very similar to my thoughts upon reading this. Can't imagine that all Sunni are lemmings.

There is a reason why the Iraqi government has agreed to bring back Baathists into the government.

In a major concession to insurgents and the Sunni community Monday, the government agreed to legislation that would reinstate Baathist officials to positions of responsibility. The Baathist officials had been purged from their jobs in the first days of the U.S. occupation.
This is probably a good idea. A lot of Baathists were functionaries and file clerks. To let them return to work is to get them off the boodly streets, and by bloody I mean bloody.

I always find it amusing when violent criminals find islam in prison. Why not convert to something that endorses the crimes you committed?

Wow! That's about all I can say about it except . . . I'll believe it when I see it.

Saddam is just looking towards how he is viewed in the future.
I am sure that if Hitler had been captured he would of done the same.

Saddam and his cronies are probably trying to prove they are still in control of Iraq as a last ditch effort to prove they should be in power. Now we have Baathists going back into the Gov't. His death penalty needs to be carried out ASAP to ensure that it is never overturned by friendlies with power.

If the Iraqi government really agreed to bring the Baathists back into the government then you are seeing it.

It'd be nice if more dictators would go the 'Hitler route', and just shoot themselves.
Waste of money to try them, and the possibility that some commie lawyer would make it his career to see them set free.

Exactly my thoughts. Funny thing is if true, Izzat is dead meat. Saddam felt earlier on, Douri had double crossed him, which probably was not true.
Izzat may now feel that Saddam is sitting in isolation with no contact with any lawyers etc., that could leak out an order that Izzat is to be shot. So he feels safe in camel trading. But I bet a dime the orders have been in place a long time by Iraqi Fedeeyen to take out all traitors upon given circumstances arising. At any rate. I believe Izzat is the most senior Saddamist still at large. It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks go, as this supposed national reconcillation continues to take hold.
