BAGHDAD (AFX) - The main Sunni Arab bloc in Iraq's parliament threatened today to pull out of the unity government and take up arms if the Shiite-dominated government continued to ignore its calls for the dismantling of militias.

Salim Abdallah, spokesman for the National Concord Front, a bloc of three Sunni parties holding 44 seats in parliament, told Agence France-Presse his group had delivered a message to the government two weeks ago about dissolving the militias.

'If they do not respond to this request, we may abandon the political process and have no other choice but to take up arms,' he said.

Actually, I agree with the Sunnis on this: the Shiite militias are a substantial part of the problem in Iraq - often Iranian backed - and must be disarmed (better yet destroyed) if the country has a prayer of succeeding as a reasonably tolerant multi-ethnic republic rather than falling to some sort of dictatorship.

America has spoken, and the Iraqis know their days with American support are numbered. It's over.

Lets see now? Dems win and cut and run is their policy. If groups counter to USA interest want victory, do what? Find excuse to start civil war, Dems will cut and run, terrorists win!

All I hope is that if we are going to cut and run that we cut and run quickly. If we are not fighting to win, and I don't see the Democrats letting us do what it takes to win, then lets not loose more men just to placate honor. If we are still in this to win hit them with everything we have left. If we are going to run, RUN and run quickly so as not to give them a chance to shoot us in the back while we go. It is time for a gut check at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

If Bush has any balls left, add 200,000 troops to Iraq and clean out the rats nest. Then move on to clean out Iran and Syria.

The Sunnis have created their own problems with the violence from their side that they either engaged in or lent support to.

The Dems chanted civil war in Iraq. Now they will have their civil war.

Exactly what are they going to do impeach him? They are going to do that anyway. Figure with a little obstruction from 34 loyal Republicans still in the Senate and they could buy Bush six months of unrestricted warfare before the Dem's can pull the plug. More than enough time to devastate the cities of the Islamic world and savage the sponsors of terror. NO MORE NATION BUILDING, NOW IS THE TIME FOR NATION WRECKING.

Exactly - Time to do the in-your-face move. With Dems in Power and Election over, Bush has nothing to prevent him from taking the correct action - Add more troops and destroy all the threats before the Dems destroy us!

I pray Bush will do this. Politics never win wars.. it its the soldiers in the ground that win them.

Hate to say it, but I agree with you. We have been playing a PC game lately, and not really trying to secure the country. The Iraqi government won't survive very long, but then they wouldn't have anyway.

Perhaps Republicans should threaten to pull out of government.

No, what the Democrats will do is what they did in Vietnam with devastating effect: cut off the money.

An impeachment - likely in in any case in my view - would be a loser for the Democrats because even with the RINOs like Specter and Snow, they can't get 2/3 to convict. But a cut-off of funds can work and work fast. The only thing Bush can do is strike preemptively, but he won't do it.

"Two weeks ago" isn't a result of yesterday's Dem win.

What are you talking about? MSM has been telling the world for a month Dems would win big! They only made this public upon actual results.

When I read comments such as these, I wonder if you have the foggiest notion of what is going on in Iraq.

Just where do you think that we should flee to in order to be safe from radical Islamic terrorism?

Do you think that any other country or peoples would even consider being with us in an endeavor when it is seen that the United States does not stand by its word and commitment?

Millions of Iraqis - 12 million in a free election - have at great danger to themselves and their families made made a commitment to a free Iraq. Do you abandon them to slaughter?

What do you think would be the result when radical Islamists gain control of the huge oil reserves in Iraq and, indeed, throughout the Middle East - and proceed to blackmail us, reducing us to nothing, and using the billions of dollars to build armaments including scores and scores of nuclear weapons?

It is telling that the people most supporting our mission in Iraq are those in the U. S. military who have served there.

We are succeeding in Iraq; and when you negate all this by embracing and sucking in the propagandistic and terroristic premises put out by the people who want to kill us - along with the leftists and media hacks in this country who want to kill us in their own way - it makes one wonder if many in our society simply any longer have in them the necessary DNA for survival.
