2008: Giuliani 24% Rice 18% McCain 17%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | November 8, 2006

Posted on 11/08/2006 1:09:15 PM PST by RWR8189

Democrats carried the day in Election 2006 and the 2008 campaign has already begun. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani leads the GOP field and is supported by 24%. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in second with 18% support.

Senator John McCain earned a lot of important friends with his aggressive campaigning in 2006, but he starts the 2008 campaign as the choice for 17% of voters.

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney comes in fourth with 9% support.

It is not clear if any or all of these candidates will formally run for the GOP nomination. When we asked voters who their second choice would be, the top four candidates lined up in the same order. Interestingly, nearly half of Rice’s supporters say that Mayor Giuliani would be their second choice.

This survey of 1,050 Republicans and 203 unaffiliated voters who would vote in a Republican Primary was conducted from November 4-7, 2006. In many states, unaffiliated voters are allowed to vote in party primaries.

Rasmussen Reports will update the Republican Presidential Primary competition every day based upon a three-day rolling average.

We will also be tracking the Democratic Party march to 2008 on a daily basis and providing new general election updates on a daily basis.

Of the 3 I would take Rudy over the other two but I prefer George Allen.

I would like to see a Governor.
Governors tend to win. Stack the odds in our favor.

As long as Rudy's position is that social issues belong to the states and not the Federal government, then his social liberalism won't be a problem with me.

Allen can enjoy a nice long retirement.

Maybe earn some money on the lecture circuit on how to blow an easy race and lose the Senate.

Who cares, Conservatives voters cannot abide anyone but a Dem, they are happier in the minority doing the MSM/DNC bidding.

Hillary will be elected.

Why are so many out of touch with reality? Rice has said repeatedly she will not run. Guiliani has too much personal bagage and Republicans in large numbers really do not care for McCain.

I think Barbour is a dark horse, one that is completely plausible. The GOP will have to draft someone because honestly, there isn't one prominent Pubbie out there that has a chance.

I am ready for 2008!

my sense - McCain has a golden opportunity here. Bush is clearly moving to "accomodate" Pelosi and Reid, and McCain can move right and oppose some of these "deals" to re-establish some of his credibility with the base.

my sense is - we may need a McCain/Rudy ticket in 2008 to stop the clintons. McCain has better organization, and since McCain is pro-life, the litmus test republicans will be less opposed to him over Rudy.

We have to face the possibility that our ideal candidate won't win the primary. And if it comes down to Rudy v. Hillary,w would you really take Hillary?
