something can be worked out -- Steele is terrific on TV -- imagine the GOP having an articulate minority spokesperson!

I don't Mehlman is a bad guy

I also don't think he's a bad guy - just an incompetent one. I hope Steele gets some prominent position, because he's definitely a rising star.

We need the new blood in the party, I think this would be great. Besides, I understand he has a good credit score

I think Steele for RNC head is a WONDERFUL IDEA!

PS - one of the claims for victory in CA is that many of the best RNC guys that used to work in Bush campaign in 2004 left RNC 8 months ago and came west to rescue Arnold.

Yes. I like this. Also, there should be a place for Irey. She had such an uphill climb, but ran a good campaign, despite the outcome.

Mehlman is fine. Steele cannot be head of RNC. Her ran as a RINO. But he would do a great job working at RNC.

Well, "time for a change" is the theme so might as well run with it. Not a bad guy? Well, you know what they say about nice guys. Let's put some Steele back into the party's backbone!

I don't think Mehlman's bad either. What's the normal protocol though, don't they usually leave after an election anyhow?

I think Steele has a VERY BRIGHT future in the republican party. (if there's still a party after today, woe is me /sar)

Wonder what the over/under is on how many times in the first six months he's mistaken for the "help" by the country club Republicans?

Wait you mean the Republicans would consider a black man heading the RNC..... will wonders never cease.

I thought we were all racists, sexists, bigots and homophobes.....

Seriously, Steele would be a GREAT leader and not because of color but because "IT CONSERVATISM STUPID" is the truth and he is that.

Were do WE vote for RNC Chair?

I am speachless.....what a way to turn things around! The irony would be exquisite! I would only be concerned that Steele would be harmed by association(not in my mind)...

Nope bad idea. He spent all of his time claiming not to be a Conservative or Republican. This is why he lost. Got part of the Black vote but lost some of the Conservatives.

Playing RINO is a bad deal because if folks want a DEM. They can just elect one.

Incidentally, I'm saddened that the Washington Post won't be eating Steele anytime soon. I was truly looking forward to that.
