America has spoken and the message is clear: We expect our government to be transparent, responsible and accountable. At the national level, Republicans failed miserably the past few years in delivering this expectation. This is why it comes as no surprise that voters have provided Democrats the opportunity to institute fundamental reforms in Congress.
Among the reforms we hope they will successfully pursue:
· Ethics Its time to put real oversight and teeth into congressional ethics rules;
· Earmarks (a.k.a. pork) Taxpayers deserve straightforward budgets limited to the core functions of government. All earmarks should be rejected and appropriations should follow the normal budget process;
· Spending A balanced budget amendment to the Constitution is long overdue. We cant afford continued out-of-control federal spending.
With super-control of Olympia for the next two years, state Democrats should also place checks on governments power. A good place to start would be with fundamental reforms to the states budget process to help improve its transparency, accountability and sustainability.
Bob Williams is president of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation, a non-partisan, public policy watchdog organization, focused on advancing individual liberty, a free-market economy, and limited and responsible government.
Now the real work begins???? What, Gridlock?
ping
Reminds me of the Clinton speech about he having the most ethical Administration of all times.
When you have sociopaths talking like that, how can any citizen take them seriously?
Wall Street is excited about the election; it figures that the split in power will equal a reduction in federal spending increases. Bush may even get to issue his first veto.
Once again the democrats will be pissing on our leg while telling us it is only raining.
Pelosi's first order of business, waving a white flag to the terrorists and crying and whining when they attack us again.
core functions...as per the view of the Founding Fathers, not the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Bob Williams calls for ethics from Democrats??? Bwaahahahahaah he must be dreaming. Who just gave Reid a pass on his fraudulent land dealings, who has a man who took a $90,000 dollar bribe in congress, who has a man who ran a prostitution ring from his basement? I wont even mention Hillary's shady deals and Ted the Kennedy the manslaughter artist. LOL ethics from democrats. Bob --baby-- go back to sleep and try to wake up smarter.
One other thing Bob. Now you liberal guys have to start putting up or shutting up. You cant pass the buck off on George Bush any more.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! They're Democrats, not Libertarians.
Bobby Gates' nickname at the CIA was The Little Prick. He is a pompous, incompetent, squishy witless fool. He is the total tool of the Jimmy Baker-Brent Scowcroft crowd that so horribly ran foreign affairs for GW's daddy. To put such a man in charge of the Pentagon - the one bastion of pro-Americanism remaining in our foreign policy establishment - is an unmitigated catastrophe.
Jack Wheeler
Bingo. Gut 90% of federal spending.
Tom Delay said Gates wants to "negotiate" with terrorists.
Gridlock is our friend.
I believe it was Walter Williams who offered that we ought to pay every member of the House and Senate a million bucks a year to STAY HOME.
At 535 million, it would be a bargain!
Seriously, I don't think Bush used the veto pen once in these first 6 years. When the DemoCRAP sponsored bills start arriving at 1600, let's see if ol' W has the cajones to send them back.
But I'm not holding my breath.

WA State Ping...JFK
Bob, put the doobie down...it ain't gonna happen. They almost have a veto proof majority of liberal spenders.
He's vetoed 1 bill. Hopefully, he'll remember where he put his veto pen come 100 hours after the RAT's are seated and the pork starts flying.
I'm more concerned they'll allow the tax cuts to expire.
