Defeated Maryland Senate candidate Michael Steele (R) is considering "a bid for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee," according to The Fix.
"Steele would not challenge current RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, but chatter among Republican insiders is that Mehlman has made clear for months that he might not return to his current post."
Mehlman to the Giuliani '08 Camp? (Weekly Standard RUMORMILL)
Would be an excellent outcome IMO
Steele yes!
This would be a good thing.
I totally agree that it would be excellent!
I suggest he is given an ambassadorship. Let him get foreign policy credentials and keep him away from the bloodbath to come. Then in 2008, he can be a very credible VP candidate.
Regards, Ivan
Well, since Bill Maher says he's going to expose Mehlman as a homosexual on his show this evening, there might be an opening sooner rather than later...
maybe something good will come of this after all!
If the republicans want to get back to conservative principles, is Steele conservative enough to head the RNC? He might pull in a lot of black and other minority voters, but would it be at the expense of conservative values and the republican agenda of "Reaganites".
Steel has my vote.
I heard someone on Bill Bennett's radio program yesterday (Pat Cadell, I think) say that Steele got enough of the black vote to win Tuesday but that it was the white republican vote that he lost. That's a real shame. If true, I don't see him winning the party chairmanship, nice as that would be :(
No problem, so far,......But he musthave a hide of "steel", for he will be called everything under the sun, Uncle tTom, etc........
I think he would do a fine job and be a good spokesman. I've never been a big Melhman fan.
I know. But the Democrats have already done that to him already. He's a good guy and can take it!
Good to see the left showing it's usual concern and love for their own base....
Got Santorum and possible Allen available too.
I'd like to see some of the proof-- it seems to be the opposite of what they were saying earlier.
But he must be able to keep his cool while under direct fire, like no others before him........
When Ken "purse strings" Mehlman called me to donate, I gave him heck about pulling the old democrat trick of just trying to scare people.
The entire thing was just like the democrats saying " Republicans want to hurt women, children and the elderly".
His was "vote Republican or Nancy will be house leader".
He would not support most Conservatives.
I call for "Purse Strings" to step down.
