I had been praying for Allen to somehow win, but since that didn't happen, maybe some miracle will occur where Lieberman will jump over to the Republicans, or somehow some dem will have to step down for whatever reason. I simply hate the fact that losing the Senate will mean we won't get good people like John Bolton or conservative Supreme Court nominees confirmed.
I'm still in shock. Not so much that the Republicans in general lost control, but that good people like Santorum and Allen were voted out of office.

UN nominations are one thing. The Supreme Court is another. Thomas got through a more Liberal Senate than this (although many of the same committee members).
We don't know that it was a long term shift as some have been saying.
But it means that we need to stand together for the short list of items that we think are important and sell the case to the voters.
It's hard work, but it can be done.
Frist is spineless and Lugar is useless. It is any wonder why we lost?
Hmm... Good question. I don't think there's a limit, but I could very well be wrong.

Also, I keep reading that Bolton can be "recessed" again, but won't get paid. I'm sure I'm not alone; I'd kick in a few bucks to pay his salary. But there must be many mega-wealthy Republicans who could EASILY give him a few hundred thousand (or whatever the salary would be). I hope that's an option!

True, but Bush will appoint him to another paid office that doesn't require confirmation.
No point in trying to confirm Bolton now...the Dims would just filibuster. Sure the GOP could try to enact a no-filibuster rule, but given they are not going to control the Senate for at least 4 years (not enough vulnerable Dims in '08) why would they do that now. If cHillery gets elected we'll be doing our fair share of filibustering.
Recess appointment isn't really an option now because US Law is clear that Bolton could not get paid for a 2nd recess appointment. Pretty sure he isn't going to work for free.

The only reason ther U.S got U.N backing in the Korean War was that the Russians were boycotting the U.N and didn't veto the resolution in the Security Council. So, somebody has to be there. I suggest the janitor. Plan 'B' would involve cutting off ALL UN funding 'til Bolton gets his hearing.
If recessed appointed again, I believe it is at no pay.
Also, when the Dims controlled before they would not recess. They would leave enough members to run things with proxies to keep recess appointments from being able to be done.
