Chafee unsure of staying with GOP after losing election

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --Two days after losing a bid for a second term in an election seen as a referendum on President Bush and the Republican Party, Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he was unsure whether he'd remain a Republican.

"I haven't made any decisions. I just haven't even thought about where my place is," Chafee said at a news conference when asked whether he would stick with the Republican Party or switch to be an independent or Democrat.

When asked if his comments meant he thought he might not belong in the Republican Party, he replied: "That's fair."

Chafee, 53, is the most liberal Republican in the Senate and was the sole Senate Republican to vote against the war in Iraq. That was not enough to save his seat against the winner, Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, who shared many of Chafee's views but was a member of the dominant party in a state where Democrats far outnumber Republicans.

When asked whether he felt that his loss may have helped the country by switching control of power in Congress, he replied: "To be honest, yes."

Exactly.

With one move after another they said "SCREW YOU", we're going to protect our frat club over principle. That's bad enough, what is worse is that they were too dimwitted to understand if the Senate split Chafee was never going to stay. He'd take the perks offered by the Dems and become the power broker Jeffords had hoped to be.

Instead of protecting that useless weasel they could have supported Laffey or at least stayed out of it. Sending a signal if you walk too far from the principled line, you hang on your own. That would have given people out there a sense maybe they did place some principles above themselves and sent a much needed lesson to the other RINO's. The problem is most of them are RINO's that have no principle and take stands only as they believe is necessary to win re-election. Chafee was NO Leiberman. Leiberman voted 98% with his party. Leiberman actually supported his own Presidential candidate. Chafee did absolutely nothing.

And yet their brilliance led them to target states like R.I. and N.J. instead of Florida, West Virginia and other states we could have reasonably taken had they kept their promises to the American people. What state are we going to target next? Mass? California? I wouldn't be surprised if they ignored the winnable states and focused on those instead.

People say we can't win without RINO's. Like Hell. There are about 60 seats to be had in states we've won, but becaue we cater to the minority Liberals in the caucus the party image becomes a liability and we LOSE in the winnable states AND the liberal states.

This complete nonentity has zero political future in ANY party, so the article is pointless.

I mean it's laughable. The Dims didn't even support him like the GOP supported Lieberman (albeit stealthly). It just goes to show you that moderate & RINO Republicans are chumps and inevitably lose all credibility.

Uh Yes..me Real Republicans in RI, and yes there are still a few of us, would never have voted for Chaffee over Laffey, (the primary challenger that Chaffee beat).

But how many Democrats and independents would have pulled the leaver for ol' Linc if he hadn't had the Republican label around his neck?

Good riddance.

An awful lot of Freepers were furious with me for saying the same thing when it was reported that he had lost the election the other night. All that $ the RNC poured into his race, both the primary to trash another Republican, and the election the other night, might well have been used to save some other Senator who lost who at least knew he was a Republican and wanted to be one.

What a wimpy looking character. I never saw his Senate picture until now but it says all that needs to be said. Gee. Did he manage to have children?

You people in the NE better start electing MEN. I am not particularly handsome at times and I don't really care if you like it. Eye contact with a lens at least should be required.

How did you end up with this specimen?

Possible the most politically incompetent move I ever saw.

No, worse yet was when they chose a side in open primary races, and always the most UNconservative candidate. And then told us to get rid of the RINOS in the primary, never in the fall. Yeah, right.

Where's your humanity? Without gainful employment,he'll have to live off his $150K/yr Congressional pension and mommy and daddy's trust fund. If I ever see him on the street,I'll be sure to drop a quarter into his cup, that's for sure!

Keep your quarter. I think Lincoln Flakee is worth about 40 million.

Hey, Linc, go home and start counting your trust baby money. That should take you quite a while.

Yeah, cuz DeWine was only with us 90% of the time. I'm sure Sherrod Brown will be there with us 100% of the time.

You know, I really don't think you are stupid. But damn, you make me have second thoughts."

Heh. Yeah and the 10% he wasn't with us he did maximum damage. In my opinion, this election was a national gut check and we failed. I'm as bitter as the next Freeper but I'm looking for a silver lining.

Do you have to begrudge me Dewine and Chafee as my silver lining or do you want me to continue to cry myself to sleep?

Perfect. He admits publicly he's nothing but an annoying doofus.

The Chafees must have been severely inbred to produce this twit.
