Mubarak Warns Against Hanging Saddam

CAIRO, Egypt — Egypt's president came out strongly against hanging Saddam Hussein, saying in remarks published Thursday that it could make Iraq explode into more violence.

The statement from President Hosni Mubarak of Eygpt broke an uneasy silence among Arab leaders over Sunday's verdict by an Iraqi court, which convicted Saddam for the killings of some 150 Shiite Muslims after an assassination attempt against him in 1982.

Mubarak, a regional heavyweight and a top U.S. ally, appeared to speak for many in the region who are uneasy about seeing a former Arab president tried and sentenced — no matter how much they disliked Saddam's regime. Analysts suggested Arab leaders are worried about the precedent an execution would set, and said Arab publics often identify with their leaders.

They didn't want to deal with Saddam when he was on a rampage but now want to undermine the Iraqi Courts.

It is Iraq's law.

If they want to dress up Saddam in a pig costume, they can. (might be fun !)

Well, of course he's against it. He's afraid that someday he'll be facing a noose and wants to make sure that heads of state get back to that old scenario where they're found guilty and then sent off to live out their days in France.

Well then cut his head off with a dull sword and post it up high on a tall poll. Fine with me.

I guess it's no surprise that an Arab dictator doesn't want to see the people rise up and execute another Arab dictator.

Don't want to get the people stirred up, now, huh Hosni?

"it could make Iraq explode into more violence."

More? More than what? Maybe if he would curb his border-crossing egyptian insurgents from coming into iraq, people would take what he says with a little more sincerity. Puhleez. He needs to worry about his own country. I didn't see him try to stop Saddam from gassing kurds and killing innocents. Blood pours from Mubarak's eyes and hands and his heart is as black as a Tikriti dung beetle.

All the Arabs had to do was to deal with the tyrants in that part of the world when they started causing trouble instead of trying to deal with them after we get the problem solved.

I wonder how Mubarek would feel about not hanging Hussein if his own wife had been in one of those rape rooms with one of Hussein's sons. I'd bet he would have an entirely different perspective. After what that monster did to his people, that the Democrats REALLY don't want to be reminded of, is beyond my understanding. What an evil, evil excuse for a human being that monster is!

Saddam should have been shot in the head the very minute he was found. The subsequent trial was a media circus that gave almost endless opportunites to the leftist media to further attack and detour our Iraq mission. If and when OBL is found, I hope there is a bullet at hand with his name on it. Can you imagine the media coverage of an OBL trial with every America-hater getting nightly access to cameras and microphones?

I am adamantly opposed to hanging Saddam.

I think he should be bound and placed on a large catapault.

Then, he should be flung about 300 feet into a wall, where he would slide down and lay in a crumpled mass at the foot of the wall. A large herd of hogs would be penned in the area around him, allowing them to chew his ears, fingers, nose off before he finally succumbs from internal bleeding.

This is actually a popular idea.

When surveyed, most Americans support catapault punishment.

Mubarek is just worried that he will have to increase his own protection when all his radicals come out to yell death to America, Israel or anyone else that is trying to keep them in check.
