My tag line says what I think! And it is appalling. Thinking that liberal RINOs are any better than Dhimmicrats isn't just folly; it's suicide. Just because a liberal has an 'R' by his name doesn't mean he's going to magically support conservative issues.
Expecting conservatives to vote for liberals just because they have an 'R' by their name is the same sort of elitist bullcrap that gets us nowhere. If you're so hot to support liberals, I'd say it's time you switched parties, pal.

Republicans are no longer Conservatives. They are Liberals with a political party attached to their name so they can get elected. Spot on. And it was via that very dynamic that we wound up with Foley. That moron ran as a Democrat for years and then switched parties when he figured out that Democrats weren't winning. That's how we got saddled with the ass-end of that "big tent" stupidity.

George Carlin said it best, "The word 'bipartisan' means that some larger than usual deception is being carried out."

Meanwhile there are no more Republican office holders in Dallas County. Texas isn't nearly as red as it was a few years ago.

"In other words, Limbaugh (and many other conservative radio talkshow hosts) didn't have as much influence with the voters as they thought they did. "Maybe.
IMO it was the message they were trying to deliver more than their abilities to deliver it. Even the best salesman has a hard time selling garage these days. Also, Rush, Hannity and other "water carriers" did not support this administrations position on borders, illegal aliens and the ports deals, and the spoke accordingly. In this regard their influence with the voters seems apparent.

Meanwhile there are no more Republican office holders in Dallas County. Texas isn't nearly as red as it was a few years ago. The more densely populated an area is, the bluer it becomes. All large cities have trended that way. It is like a choke hold on all it's resources. More people become dependent on government and government becomes the largest employer.

So you like the tax and spend Repubs in Texas? You think a big new (income) tax is just the ticket? I do not understand how people can support big/new taxes, spend/spend/spend and call themselves conservative.
Rat Bell got 29%, fiscally conservative Grand Ma got 19 and Kinky got 12. The fact that two independants can get almost 1/3 of the vote should tell you that folks in Texas are not happy. What happens two years from now then those unhappy voters go to the polls. This time they took thier unhappiness out on Perry, next time it might be GOP reps and senators that take the hit.

So you like the tax and spend Repubs in Texas? NO! I feel your pain when it comes to spending both on a national and state level. Too much "Play along to get along" with the dems.
But I believe there is too much of a knee jerk reaction to the outside funding of the proposed toll road. Do you think I would care if I'm cruising on a toll road at 80mph paid for by Communist China instead of 30mph on I35 when so much of what I buy is made in China anyway?

Well maybe, maybe not, I don't know. I know i do not like the idea of a NAFTA super highway, but then I am not a fan of NAFTA either. Seems the entire idea is to make it easier to bring Chicom goods into the US market without using US ports or US truckers. That I think is a bad idea.

I believe we need the fence along the border and better port security. All ports, air, land, and sea. That should ease your concerns. The dems are already talking about increasing port security, probably more for union pay back than real security.

Hey, I greatly admire Milton Friedman too, but I would not presume to call myself by his name (unless perhaps he was dead, thus elimnating any chance of confusion). I suggest you rethink your choice of screen name. In fact, I don't think FreeRepublic should allow people to use celebrity names unless they are the actual celebrity. How do you think Milton Friedman would feel if he knew that your were posting under his name?

Yeah, right... It wasn't about individuals it was about who got the majority and all the shit that is about to be heaped on this country because of ignorant shortsighted people like you.
NO ONE EVER said that an individual liberal republican is any better than a democrat -- BUT -- I am saying that a Republican MAJORITY is SO MUCH better than a Democrat one...there should be NO discussion about that.
You purists are the reason the US will be weaker and more vulnerable, have no Conservatives judges, and be seeing an unending retreat from what good conservatives fought for had gained...you took away a good many conservatives who fought to advance the agenda of conservative principles to teach the RINOS a lesson..really smart!
The mere FACT that a liberal Republican is the ONLY kind that can ever get elected in many districts/states is just the way it is....but radical purists like you just can't get common sense issues like that through you thick skulls! SO you give away the chairmanships of ALL committees -- in the Senate and the House -- and what agenda will be followed.
Just keep bitching about what you don't like, you're going to a have a lot more very soon.
You taught the RINOS a lesson -- BUT -- at what (GREAT) cost to the country and the people -- and the conservative movement....not to mention the "good" conservatives who are OUT!
ALL that is to come is on you and your comrades!

Election 2006 was lost in very large part because of the futile Iraq War.
All United States troops should be withdrawn from Iraq.
