Former US president Gerald Ford is currently 93 years old. To be precise, he's actually 34,087 days old as of November 10.*
Why is that significant? Because the current longest-lived (former) president was Ronald Reagan, whose life spanned 34,088 days.
So, on November 11, Gerald Ford will move into a tie with Ronald Reagan as the longest living former president and on Nov. 12, 2006 he will pass him to officially become the oldest former president ever (34,089 days).

I pray that Mr. Ford's life is turned in the right direction before it's over. He's well into extra innings.

I know a lot of people didn't like former President Ford, particularly when he pardoned Nixon, among other things. But I don't see where he did anything all that horrible. At least to my knowledge, he didn't chase skirts like Clinton, or let Bin Laden get away.
So I wish him well. May he live 100 years (and more).

Longevity. Thats the only way Ford will ever pass Ronald Reagan. I wish Ford all the best.

Ford and I might not be eye to eye politically on a lot but I think he is a good man and I hope he lives to 100.

God Bless him. Hes a man of considerable character who had a nasty mess to clean up after and paid the price for it. I'd like to see him or Reagan replace the current pouty mouthed fop thats on our ten dollar bill.

You don't seem to have much of an appreciation for all that we owe Alexander Hamilton. Do you feel this is this an informed opinion?

:) He also had more than a few pratfalls recorded for posterity as well. And one assassination attempt. Poor guy.

Perhaps I was a bit over the top on that. I'm more Jeffersonian in temprement and I've more than a few problems with some of what Hamilton supported. On the whole though he was a leading figure and certainly a brilliant man.

Hamilton was the arch-Federalist and wanted to dissolve the States. That would be kind of out of line with Conservative values.

[All first thoughts self-deleted] I pray that Mr. Ford's life is turned in the right direction before it's over.
Well I ain't gonna self-delete my first thoughts.
From the article:
Ford, who served as president for three years following the resignation of Richard Nixon in 1974, played down the significance of the milestone in a statement released by his office. "The length of one's days matters less than the love of one's family and friends," he said.
"I thank God for the gift of every sunrise and, even more, for all the years He has blessed me with Betty and the children, with our extended family and the friends of a lifetime."
Now if you assume that a 93 year old geezer like Gerald Ford really believes in "God", and if Gerald Ford believes that this "God" of his bears any resemblance whatsoever to the "God" whose description was recorded by a passel of Jews named Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, then what in the hell [no pun intended] does Gerald Ford think he's gonna say to "God" of his, when, in a very short time, Gerald Ford gets asked:
My son, why did you champion the murder of these, My children, when they were but babes in the wombs of their mothers?

Hamilton was the arch-Federalist and wanted to dissolve the States. That would be kind of out of line with Conservative values. Hamilton was the arch ANTI-Federalist who warned us that any [ostensibly] minimal list of the rights of man would necessarily degenerate into a maximal list of the rights of man - in what was quite possibly the most profoundly prescient & chillingly accurate prediction, concerning the course of the affairs of men, that has been made in perhaps the last millenium or so.

Yeah. I read his writing and the speech he gave at the 1787 Constitutional Convention. It is brutal.

I haven't read anything about Hamilton actually stating a desire to dissolve the States, is this an interpretation on your part?
I'm well aware of Hamilton's lifetime achievements. Such achievements as his role in championing the Constitution and getting it ratified, almost single handedly setting the U.S. on the path of world economic domination as well as coauthoring the Federalist papers. It is my interpretation that he favored a tiered approach to power, with the power of the State governments trumping the power of local municipal governments and the Federal Government's power trumping the States. Any one of these achievements would easily earn a superior claim to the right to be on the $10 bill as compared to Ford. Reagans' achievements would make for a closer call, however given all of Hamilton's achievements taken in their totality I believe a majority of referees would call the fight in Hamilton's favor to use a boxing metaphor.
I realize that Hamilton's views would not conform strictly to what we consider today's conservative Republican values, but this does not lessen his contributions to America. Given his tiered approach to governmental powers, I can easily imagine that he would likely lean towards the Democratic parties views in regards to supporting the U.N. for example. One could easily imagine how he could even take the leap in logic which would give a one world government sovereignty over the U.S. government, but of course this type of thinking is pure speculation and shouldn't be held against the man.
However; in regards to his holding a view that States should be dissolved, do you have a source attributable directly to him for this?
