Julia Gorin: The Ottoman Empire Reasserts Itself in Kosovo
Republican Riot ^ | 10.30.2006 | Julia Gorin

Somewhat of a p.s. to Tuesday’s post about Turkish NATO troops’ good works for the non-Serbs of Kosovo: The province’s parliament has just approved Turkish as an official language, to join Albanian and Serbo-Croatian (the last one just a formality until they kick the last of the Serbs out). Turkish had been declared official in Kosovo before, in 1974, but the UN ended that in 1999.

Apparently, the 15,000 ethnic Turks of Kosovo “have had a long-standing desire for their language to be used in official documents.”

This could be fun......

Hey what about Romany? There are probably more gypsies in the area than Turks.

Most of the Roma are gone from Kosovo, the rest are ignored.

So, it took them just about 100 years to return their armed forces.

A short interlude in the millennia long Muslim arrow pointed at the heart of Europe.

The whole idea of Turkey sending troops to Serbia is in violation of treaties defeated Ottoman Turkey signed with Serbia.

None of that matters anymore --if the UN approves something, it's OK -- like German troops and a German administrator in Kosovo after what happened there during WWII -- you must acquire voluntary amnesia or lose your mind.

"Never forget the Holocaust", but forget who the perpetrators were and forget the rest of WWII history. As a matter of fact, forget national sovereignty and the rights of individuals. Humans are all just tribes now, being managed by a socialist UN & EU who decide what it is and isn't ours based on our sheer numbers.

Wonder how long before this trend comes to America?

Oh, what am I saying? January, 2007 -- when the House and Senate go the Democrats. Onward to this Brave New World!

At least in the Western Christian tradition, there IS such a thing as a just war.

But--sorry Susan Sontag and clinton--the "Kosovo" war wasn't a just war!!!! Neither was the anti-Serb intervention in "Bosnia".

And I don't trust the incoming Third Way/international fascist (i.e., so-called "Democratic") Congress one bit. Expect more New World Order/Global Union shenanigans than even the neocons pulled on us!!!!

I believe those treaties are nullified by the non-continuity between the prewar Ottoman Empire and Serbia and the modern states of Turkey and Serbia.

I am positive that Serbia has continuity of her international treaties since 1878 (Kingdom of Serbia- Kingdom of Yugoslavia - Socialist Yugoslavia - Federal Yugoslavia - Serbia and Montenegro - Serbia.

I do not know about Ottoman Turkey - Republic of Turkey, but I believe they have continuity also.
