ROVIDENCE, R.I. - Two days after losing a bid for a second term, Sen. Lincoln Chafee (news, bio, voting record) said he was unsure whether he would remain a Republican.

Chafee lost to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse in a race seen as a referendum on President Bush and the GOP. On Thursday, he was asked whether he would stick with the Republican Party or become an independent or Democrat.

"I haven't made any decisions. I just haven't even thought about where my place is,".......

As I understand it, Problem is, before he goes, he will be voting on Boltons UN post and be the deciding vote. I wonder if he will stick it in the Repubs eye before he slithers away.

Chafee's job was to frustrate conservatives while the GOP was in power by siding with the Demos.

Now that the Demos are in power, he is no longer needed.

Are you surprised?

I believe that he's already said that he would.

And while we're at it, why doesn't Olympia Snowe go with him as well. Maybe Arlen Specter might want to follow

Good idea. Let's make sure the Republican Party is not competitive anywhere in the northeast, industrial midwest or pacific coast. /sarc

Does anybody really think that:

Rummy resigning *after* the election rather than before,

Bolton resigning *after* the election rather than before,

Chafee resigning *after* the election rather than before,

Are all 'coincidences'?

Open your eyes, they are screaming.

Do we really need Olympia and Arlen to be competitive ? How about a real conservative face ?

Your argument might be -- well, since Maine for instance, is already liberal, might as well have a liberal candidate for the Republican party.

This of course assumes that a true conservative can NEVER win in states like Maine. I don't buy that for a moment.

why waste our time with this garbage...he is a
true blue nitwit who rode his father's coattails
all his life....never did a thing for the party or
anyone else, except his own agenda..which is as
liberal as it gets..good riddance. Jake

Yup, that's my argument. Freepers may not like it, but 99 times out of 100, Toomey loses in PA, Laffey loses in RI, etc. Movement conservatives are not going to win in the northeast, industrial midwest and far west.
