"The media really oughta slack up a bit."

That's exactly what I expect to happen. Democrats pretended they were concerned for the safety of U.S. servicemen in Iraq and used U.S. casualties as an excuse to attack the GOP's conduct of the war. Their ploy was successful and they were elected, but now they can, and will, end the charade. The Democrats will now turn their attention elsewhere and we will hear very little from the MSM about U.S. casualties or how badly things are going in Iraq.

From now until the election of 2008, look for a never ending MSM diatribe about who is to blame for getting the U.S. into the Iraq war, with subpoena after subpoena and investigation after investigation of alleged GOP wrongdoers.

I think what is going on here is the perception switch. The MSM and the Democrats have known all along that winning is inevitable unless we pull out before the Iraqi Government can govern themselves and defend themselves so to avoid this too early of a pull out President Bush while looking more after America's interest above party Interest has offered the Democrats and MSM the credit for the victory and Rumsfeld's resignation for the victory. When victory is achieved now all the Democrats and MSM has to do is claim they forced the President to "change the course" which lead to the victory thus the victory is theirs.

Screw it.

Put a wall around our country. Pull all troops back and put them on the border to protect any invasion.

Then throw the UN out and confiscate every ambassadors residence and turn them into homeless shelters. Renovate the UN and make it low income housing.

The Saudi's are an on again, off again ally at best. And they always will be. Although I agree with you that Mecca is not a good (though certainly a rich) target, we do need to find a suitable one and FAB it into oblivion. And another and another and another until they get the picture that we are no longer fiddle-farting around with the terrorists. What's a couple million crispy critters compared to a couple billion Christians and Jews?

I think that what you say will likely happen, but I also think that the Dems want first to be able to take credit for the war's successrful conclusion, if they can. That is what I see as the impetus for the current raft of supportive stories in outlets that had nothing good to say on the subject and anything related to it.

What they want is to paint the rosy picture they COULD have painted just as truly before the election. Then the Dems move to reduce our presence, then the investigations and subpoenas begin.

These people have had a long time to think about this, one bears remembering.

Although Pakistan is an ally, it seems to me if one wanted to go "ape shit" to quote Gen. Kilgore, the lawless tribal region of Pakistan would be a possibility. More defined targets are the Iranian and Syrian military.

So we can expect 12,000 more Terrorists KIA by the end of the year?

"but I also think that the Dems want first to be able to take credit for the war's successrful conclusion, if they can."

Iraq is a mess of the Iraqi's making and the Iraqi's ability to bring it to anything like a successful conclusion is highly doubtful. The Democrats will not put their hands on that war and they never intended to; they only used the war to entice voters to vote for them. As long as the war is going badly and the Democrats can continue to blame the GOP for starting the war, they will continue to use it for political advantage.

Never forget that Democrats had rather see our soldiers killed and our country defeated than to allow a Republican President to receive credit for winning a war. It happened in Vietnam, and it's happening again now.

As tantalizing as that sounds, well.....

Although downright criminal ineptitude by the Jimmah Cahtah and Bubba Klintoon administrations allowed this wound to fester and grow into a massive systemic infection (and we are not without our failures too) we are well past the blame game stage. Let's face it, we have a problem of Biblical proportions on our hands. And if we do not stop it before it reaches the point of no return, the entire non-mooslime population of the world is screwed. The biggest problem is that most people either do not or will not recognize this problem for the horrific one that it is.

What's the adage about people with a substance abuse or gambling problem....."you can't fix the problem until you admit to yourself that you have one?"

"Al Qaeda Claims to Have 12,000 Fighters in Iraq"

Just line them all up like the ducks in a shooting gallery and we'll send them (they think) to their 72 virgins.

History repeating itself would teach us this and you may well be right about the Dems' approach. I tend to think that having Vietnam and Iraq both go the same way for the same reason instigated and exploited by the same people will just be too much for too many.

Perhaps the Dems have the chutzpah to really try the same trick twice. I think the mess is not quite so bad as the media has presented it to be, hence it is as much a PR effort to re-spin the effort as it is the final wrap-up on the ground out there.

But you may well be right. It'll be very bloody and degrading, if so.

These people didn't get to where they are because NASA wasn't hiring that day.

It may be taken out of 'our' hands. Just as the Dems condemned millions of Cambodians to death, just to get back to Nixon, clearly they are now prepared to do something like the same just to get back at Bush. Childish, yes, and also criminal. Hell will be a popular post-death destination for leadership Democrats. Meanwhile, we are in the position of having elected feckless politicians of no known patriotic bent.

No matter what 'we', as in you and I, want, there may be a lot of blood on the ground, just to prove a political point. I think that's just plain horrific, I don't have the words to convey how much I hate what may well happen.

I am pretty sure that every soldier now on station in Iraq or anywhere else, is now permanently on alert. No one is going to want to blunder into a Mogadishu situation where the faceless politicos can simply turn their backs and say they couldn't help and isn't it a shame.

That's the advice I have: eyes up, men. Your loyal and courageous leaders just got replaced by craven ones. Many Americans would love to have your back but those who really can won't. Eyes up.

"The way I figure it that will be 864,000 virgins standing by."

What are they going to do when they run out of virgins? Are they going to get 72 girls who only didn't once?
