To the dismay of conservative Republicans, Mr Bush has already indicated that he agrees with the Democratic proposal to raise the minimum wage.

I don't remember reading that anywhere. If so, G.W. is wimping out big time.

He's not wimping out, he's going forward with the same aganda he's had all along. It isn't a conservative one either.

I think we will see big time wimping on the part of Bush. Just a matter of time. I voted for him twice...stuck by him thru all the shi'ite with overspending, Iraq rebuilding, open borders and so on...but enough is enough. No more compassionate conservatism and no more Bush family.

Time for conservatives to regroup...we win when sticking with principles.

Instead of blaming the President why don't you make arguements to your fellow voters against the minimum wage.

Like it or not the minimum wage is popular with voters and gets huge margins when put to the voters.

He said that in his press conference. He does NOT understand anything real about economics. He is a self proclaimed Keynesian which is a school of nonEconomics that studies and promulgates the ways that government can obtain and "justify" control over the economy for the purpose of controlling society.

It's clear that "compassionate conservatism" is both an insult to conservatives (apparently, we aren't compassionate) and big government liberalism.

Increasing the minimum wage was one of the 1st subjects Bush spoke on and said he could support an increase so long as Small Businesses were not hurt (something to that effect).

It sounded like a tax-break or a federal subsidy for the increase.

Of course , if he follows the Clinton model. W is not our Party leader. He thinks he is right domestically and he is very wrong. So, do not expect a new or even lame duck Pub Congress to do much for him now and for the next two years. It will be a Dem domestic agenda and that will kill the Pubs Congressionally in '08. Unless the Senate and House Gop goes for new fresh conserv communicators, the Dems will be in power to eternity. Unfortunately, Hugh Hewitt is wrong about his optimism about taking back Congress in '08. How can they if they do not stand up for their ideals and issues?
