ELTON JOHN: 'I WOULD BAN RELIGION COMPLETELY'
Sat Nov 11 2006 15:42:55 ET

Sir Elton John wants religion banned completely -- because he believes it promotes hatred of gays.

Speaking to the Observer Music Monthly Magazine the singer said religion lacked compassion and turned people into "hateful lemmings".

The PRESS ASSOCIATION reports: In a candid interview for a dedicated Gay issue of the magazine he shared his views on topics as varied as being a pop icon to Tony Blair's stance on the war in Iraq.

He said there was a lack of religious leadership, particularly in world politics, and complained that people do not take to the streets to protest any more.

Sir Elton said: "I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays.

"But there are so many people I know who are gay and love their religion. From my point of view I would ban religion completely.

"Organised religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

He added: "The world is near escalating to World War Three and where are the leaders of each religion? Why aren't they having a conclave? Why aren't they coming together?

"I said this after 9/11 and people thought I was nuts. Instead of more violence why isn't there a meeting of religious leaders?

"It's like the peace movement in the Sixties. Musicians got through to people by getting out there and doing peace concerts but we don't seem to do them any more.

"If John Lennon were alive today he'd be leading it with a vengeance," he said.

Sir Elton said people were too busy blogging on the internet to go out onto the streets to stand up for what they believed in.

"They seem to do their protesting online and that's not good enough. You have to get out there and be seen to be vocal, and you've got to do it time and time again.

"There was a big march in London when Britain decided to join the war against Iraq and Tony Blair is on the record as saying 'the people who march today will have blood on their hands'. That's returned to bite him on the ass," he said.

Sir Elton compared his place in British culture with that of the Queen Mother's.

He said: "People come to me and I'm a bit like the Queen Mother. I never get those problems. I don't know what it is with me, people treat me very reverently.

Referring to his "wedding" to long-term partner David Furnish, he said: "It was the same when Dave and I had our civil union - I was expecting the odd flour bomb and there wasn't.

"Dave and I as a couple seem to be the acceptable face of gayness, and that's great."

He pledged to continue to campaign for gay rights saying: "I'm going to fight for them whether I do it silently behind the scenes or so vocally that I get locked up.

"I can't just sit back; it's not in my nature any more. I'm nearly 60-years-old after all. I can't sit back and blindly ignore it and I won't."

What the h*** is he complaining about? He's made millions from being the Liberace of his generation.

He had no problem criticizing fellow gay celeb George Michael for being "deeply unhappy". Where's the solidarity, Elton?

WHAT can anyone say to that?

Elton:

Be careful what your wish for....you may get it. ('rats are in charge now, you know)

As sorry as the state of affairs is in the world today...it could get a lot worse. It could be that gays and other "alternate lifestyle" choices could be dealt with on a summary basis, if it were not for the influence of Christanity. It is only by God's blessing on a relatively few Christian people that is holding this mess together.

It is not allah blessing us, for allah's blessing is to murder and terrorize infidels, terrorize and mutilate their women, and spread their "word" by force.

What Elton John means by banning religion, IMO, is banning Christanity....and if Christanity was somehow "banned" would mean that the meanest thugs would run things....not the most intellegent, or most compassionate..but the meanest. They would take your food, your wife, your daughters...your life if they wanted.

AAAHHHH yes....Sir Elton is an ignorant fool. He hasn't the intellegence to even consider what is keeping him and his "husband"...(or wife) safe from harm.

Additional scoop on Dear Elton...

Camp routine by Sir Elton offends scouts, by Paul Kelso in The Guardian, 1st. December, 1999, page 11.
The article includes a colour photograph of Elton John with his 'scout' dancers at the Stonewall benefit show. "The Scouts Association yesterday accused Sir Elton John of suggesting a link between homosexuality and paedophilia after the singer performed backed by a troupe dressed as boy scouts at a fund-raising concert organised by Stonewall, the gay rights pressure group. The association made the accusation after the male dancers, taken on Sunday evening at the 10th. anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, were published in the Sun newspaper."

Gays apologise for Sir Elton's act with 'cub scout' strippers by John Schetler in The Independent, 1st. December, 1999, page 11.
"The gay rights group Stonewall has apologised after Sir Elton John caused outrage by performing a dance act with male teenage strippers dressed as boy scouts at a benefit concert."
"Sir Elton, 52, introduced the dancers, who peeled off their uniforms and caps to the tune of 'It's A Sin' by the Pet Shop Boys. The dancers knelt on the floor, grabbed their groins and stripped to skimpy shorts. Among guests at the concert on Sunday at the Royal Albert Hall in central London, which was held to celebrate Stonewall's 10th anniversary, were the Prime Minister's wife, Cherie Blair and the MPs Frank Dobson and Simon Hughes."

Do we ban nations because of the blood shed in their name?

LOL. The Holy Scriptures and God's laws and assurances of His judgement of sin have survived thousands of years and every unrepentant human being who ever lived and the Holy Scriptures will survive Elton John.

God has done everything He said He would do from Genesis up to the present and He will do everything He said He will do in the future - including judge sin and punish it.

And no amount of futile wishful thinking on the part of Elton John will change any of that.

I like a lot of Elton John's music, especially early stuff like "Madman Across The Water."

Saying that he has no talent is a lot like saying OJ Simpson was not a great running back. The charge isn't true, but it doesn't really need to be.

From the latest South Park episode, in a scene in the "future":
No! Our answer to the Great Question is the only logical one. Our Science is great. Let us not forget the great Richard Dawkins who finally freed the world of religion long ago. Dawkins knew that logic and reason were the way of the future. But it wasn't until he met his beautiful wife [Mrs. Garrison! :D] that he learned using logic and reason isn't enough. You have to be a dick to everyone who doesn't think like you.
Prepare all the troops! We will level the United Atheist Alliance to the ground!

Gee, gay activists are soooooo tolerant of others, aren't they? They wish to deny basic, fundamental human freedoms like religion.

Also, since the UK has criminalized hate speech, why should he not be charged with hate speech against religious believers here?

To Sir Elton about the cause of wars:

"From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye bask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." (James, chapter 4)

Perhaps Sir Elton should be banned because he promotes hatred of religion.

I liked Elton John's songs. I lost respect for him when I read an article many years ago about when an friend sent him a birthday gift: a 15-yr old boy dressed only in a bowtie....

I never heard that before.
