He is the total tool of the Jimmy Baker-Brent Scowcroft crowd that so horribly ran foreign affairs for GW's daddy.

This is not a dispassionate analysis.

I know nothing about Gates, but I have to admit my initial reaction when I heard the nomination was "not another retread".

If this description of Gates is accurate his nomination is a disaster.

This article does a poor job of explaining why exactly I should be opposing Gates. There's a lot of name-calling here, but precious little in the way of hard facts about Gates indicating that he will be bad for the job. Gates is friendly with James Baker? Oooh, the horror. Half of the administration is friendly with James Baker, including the President and Vice President.

Until "the incorruptible one" is running the government, things will continue to progress down the wide path to destruction. The only difference between the men in charge is the speed at which we reach oblivion.

1 John 2:15-16
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Isaiah 9:7
Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

I was dreading the findings of the Iraq Study Group prior to the election. Now, with this nomination and the grim realization that the bipartisan committee's recommendations will be implemented chapter and verse, I'm pretty much fresh out of hope.

Bush is replacing Rummy with a guy who ran death squads and torture teams in Central America, and who gave chemical weapons to Saddam, and Stinger missiles to Osama bin Laden, and who twisted Intelligence estimates for Reagan, and who coordinated Iran Contra. Several Dem senators are sharpening their knives and licking their chops waiting for Gates to appear before their committees.
