Yep. Almost all the GOP moderates were roadkill. The House GOP is even more conservative in the minority now that it no longer has to pay attention to RINOs like Chris Shays. The wings of the Senate GOP moderates have been clipped by the ouster of a couple of their number from office. Getting to the middle of the road only gets you killed. 2006 will be remembered as the Year Of The Dead GOP Armadillos.

So while the GOP is busy purging itself of moderates, the Democrats have just retaken Congress with the help of a number of anti-abortion anti-gun control an-illegal immigration candidates. They went from leftist purity and minority status to a more mixed caucus (but solidly controlled by hardcore leftists like Pelosi).

The GOP is being virtually wiped off the map in the Northeast and New England. Once Judd Gregg, Olympia Snow and Collins retires - those seats may well be gone for a generation.
