Letter from the President of NASCON

Posted on 11/12/2006 4:01:31 PM PST by steelwheels

Dear fellow NASCON member,

I am sure many of our members are not pleased with the outcome of Tuesday’s elections. While I am certainly one of those I believe it is also a time to find the silver lining. The Republicans have held the senate and the house since 1994 and I think Conservatives as a whole have become somewhat complacent. I truly believe this setback will result in a newly found desire to resurrect the passion for the values that define conservatism.

Our nemesis the AARP contributed heavily to the outcome of the midterm elections. While we are not certain of the amount of money they spent on the TV ads most of us saw we’re sure it must have been quite a bit. I am sure most of you saw the “Don’t Vote” and “Don’t ask me about social security” ads. While the latter was almost entertaining it makes a complete mockery of the issues we face and how politicians view it and the “Don’t Vote” ads are incredibly misleading and just plain wrong. The AARP maintains the “Don’t Vote” campaign was trying to get people to know more about a candidate before voting we believe many took the ad at face value and simply “Didn’t Vote”. Advertising is a funny thing and those with the most money can twist people into believing their message. While the relentless ads by Coca-Cola, McDonalds, and others don’t result in little more than a few cavities and more pounds, the AARP ad feeds on those who are susceptible to propaganda. The result, many did not vote, turn out was low, and the Republicans were beaten. On top of all this the AARP maintains that they are non-partisan. It is amazing to us how they can continue to receive hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars or government grants when they spread the very partisan vitriol they do.

This election must result in a rise in the conservative movement. We must stand up and let it be known we will not take defeat lying down but rather use the lessons learned to regain the house and senate next time.

NASCON is very pleased to announce that Senior Market Sales (SMS) has partnered with us to provide cutting edge customer service to all our members seeking Medicare Solutions including Medicare Part D, Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and more. SMS works with independent insurance agents, agencies and organizations to provide the best options and competitive prices from top-rated carriers such as Banker’s Fidelity, Mutual of Omaha, Coventry, MetLife Aetna, CIGNA, Genworth, and John Hancock. Please visit the website www.nascon.org and click on the Medicare Solutions button or call 1-888-7NASCON to learn more and remember November 15th is the first day of open enrollment. We would also like to know what you think of the Medicare prescription drug plan. We are coming up on the second year of open enrollment for this program; is this program working for seniors? I know the guy that started NASCON. It's an excellent alternative to AARP for people in the market for such a thing.
