Just for fun and your entertainment I'm gonna post the summary timeline of an "alternate history" semi SCIFI novel I'm working on. I have a more detailed one if you find it interesting. It will be in the form of the journals of several members of the 101st Airborne as they fight to redeem a crippled and fallen nation. Apocalyptic themes and such are intentional.
Chronology Summary
2004
US forces capture Osama Bin Laden, breaking the back of Al-Qieda. Iraq is stabilized, thousands of foreign combatants captured. President Bush is elected to a second term.
An obscure Italian physicist, Antonio Baldini demonstrates a sustainable fusion reaction.
2005
A pro-democratic coup in Syria leads to installation of a pro-American government. Iraqi WMD, secreted away in that country, are turned over to the US. A US brokered Israeli/Palestinian peace summit, brings hope of resolution of Palestinian problem.
Trials of a space plane begin.
2006
US puts increasing pressure on Iran to abandon WMD programs. US launches pre-emptive air strikes. Gaza granted independence touching of terror bombings by hardliners across Israel.
First fusion plant on line.
2007
US and Iraqi forces invade Iran.
Space plane operational. Space boom begins. Kenji Takeda, of Takeda MicroSystems charters several flights, demonstrates molecular processor. Takeda plans orbit laboratory and manufacturing facility. US begins building space plane under license, plans orbit space port.
2008
Iran surrenders to US/Iraqi forces, democratic government installed. General Hawthorne, commander of the 101st Airmobile Division, named as C. Rice’s running mate in presidential elections, win by large margin. World economy booms.
Takeda moves into his orbital manufacturing facility, where his daughter is born. Takeda launches Kimnet, first as a marketing tool for his molecular chips. Kimnet takes on a life of it’s own as the world becomes obsessed with Kimiko Takeda, the first child born in orbit. US invests heavily in space development, a new lunar initiative, orbit ship yard, as well as military projects. Baldini opens several fusion plants this year, as well as revealing that he is expecting seventy children in the fall through a group of surrogate mothers.
2009
Arab-Israeli peace accords end sixty year of conflict. Extremist groups respond to peace treaty with worldwide wave of terror bombings. The USMC begins orbital training, including orbital insertion exercises.
US prepares for manned mission to colonize Mars. Luna colony founded. Orbital boom continues. Baldini starts construction of space city DaVinci, also introduces fusion tunneling device dubbed the “mole.” Kimiko’s first birthday viewed by over one billion viewers.
2010
Moscow is destroyed by an act of nuclear terrorism. Chechen terrorists with Saudi financing blamed. Russian government collapses. Sixteen days later, president Rice is assassinated by an Yemeni suicide bomber. World economy collapses. US/Iraqi/Syrian forces enter the Saudi peninsula after fundamentalist coup overthrows house of Saud.
Luna colony expands with help of fusion mole. US launches asteroid mine ship “Yosemite”. USMC orbital base “Tripoli” operational. Mars terraforming begins. EU completes space catapult in Guyana.
2011
Second Korean war, ends with nuclear exchange. US orbital defenses prevent three N.K. IRBMs from reaching west coast. Radical Islamists seize control in Pakistan.
2012
N. Korea reunifies with the south. Islamist coup in Egypt. New Russian government enters alliance with Egypt/Pakistan/Yemen. Sudan civil war begins. Short Indo-Pakistan war ends in stalemate. President Hawthorne re-elected.
US presence on Mars and in asteroid belt. Baldini launches first ion ship, moves his children to orbital academy. Takeda begins mass production of the mindmirror.
2013
Boston and Miami are destroyed by nuclear terrorism. Sweeping powers are granted to US military to combat terror.
Martian land rush in wake of nuclear attacks on US.
2014
Al-Masood, preaching a modernized of Al-Murij-ah, negotiates peace in Sudan.
US space elevator operational in Hawaiian islands. Baldini introduces advanced fusion tunneler christened the “earthworm”.
2015
Al-Masood begins Africa walk, wins Nobel Peace Prize.
US/Corp presence on Io, Europa, EU base on Venus. US shipbourne space elevator operational. Baldini theorized Q ship.
2016
Al Masood’s Rift Valley Discourses. US moves toward appeasement of radical Islamists with the election of Cardwell as president.
US/Corp orbital station established in Jupiter orbit. Trans-Mediterranean tunnel completed.
2017
Prophet delivers Cape Discourses, then tours western Africa. UN international corps founded. US agrees to serve under UN control in future deployments. US begins worldwide troop withdrawals and base closures.
Gas mine completed in Jupiter orbit. Kimiko releases first album “Geosynchronis”.
2018
Prophet enters Egypt precipitating collapse of radical government. UN forces deployed to Nigeria and S. Africa to quell unrest following prophet’s visit. Ex-president Hawthorne moves to Iceland.
Kimiko releases volume of poetry, “Weightless Words”. Baldini begins Q-ship trials near his newly completed facility around Pluto. First Q-ship jump ends with mysterious accident.
2019
Confederation of African States, (CAS), formed after African Unity Conference. Al-Masood named president. Prophet announces African Eden project, donations steam in from around the world, UN forces offered to enforce project.
2020
Al-Masood enter Israel with the ark of the covenant, recovered from Ethiopian Copts. Expert analysis of relic categorically refused. Al-Masood delivers his Galilean Discourses precipitating schism throughout Islam. US enters into historic, worldwide nuclear disarmament agreement. Vatican III supports transnationalism and tolerance. Great schism in Roman church leads to formation of Spanish Apostolic Catholic Church. President Cardwell is re-elected in US.
Kimiko publishes second volume of poetry, “Presence”.
2021
Islamic shockwave ends with Medina Council. Message of prophet accepted, proclaimed, “Lamp of the Prophet”. Islamic Unity Conference follows, leading to integration with CAS.
Mars colonies continue to grow, Mars Studios opens. Hawthorne publishes “Science, War and Culture.” Kimiko’s second album, “Halls of Valhalla”.
2022
Second Indo/Pakistan war in ten years ends in nuclear exchange. Al-Masood brokers a peace agreement favorable to Pakistan, UN forces enter India.
Kimiko releases third album, “Olympians” prior to first earth tour in relief of victims of Indo/Pakistani war. Kimiko’s ion ship “Vitae” second privately owned ion craft.
2023
Indonesian civil war.
Hawthorn publishes “Blueprint for Betrayal”, condemning the transnational movement. Baldini withdraws to Pluto, calls Hawthorne, “the true prophet”, fatwah issued for death of Hawthorne and Baldini by Islamist fringe.
2024
Hawthorne returns to US to run for president as an independent. Shortly after campaign begins, he is wounded in an assassination attempt. Despite injuries, Hawthorne returns to campaign trail, wins presidency. Prophet declares Hawthorne’s election as evidence of resurgent American militarism. UN world tax is assessed against wealthy nations. Tax causes Mars and Lunar colonies to revolt.
Kimiko’s third volume of poetry “Basis” is released.
2025
Under increasing internal pressure from Unity followers, the EU unravels. Final US forces withdrawn from the Continent. Spanish Civil War begins, US intervenes. Additional conflict between Turkey and Greece. Following the end of the Spanish Civil War, Spanish clerics hold Council of Barcelona launching Spanish Reformation and condemning the prophet as a Son of Satan. Late this year UNITY forces in the PRC begin passive resistance which quickly leads to armed conflict.
2026
PRC collapses, Unity government installed. Prophet announces Unification Government calls for the end of the nation state. UN forces deployed to Sicily to protect Unity followers. US forces enter several Caribbean nations. US Mercenary Charter Act opens door to expanded private military operations.
2027
UN denounces US. League of Independent States formed. Mercenaries deployed to Quebec and Argentina. Spanish and Roman Popes exchange excommunications.
2028
Prophet calls for active resistance against militaristic governments. Protests quickly paralyze US major cities. Martial law quickly follows as situation degrades. Presidential elections suspended. Mars signs neutrality agreement with Unity government.
Kimiko publishes “Splendor” thinly veiled attack on Unity. Book condemned by Unity clerics. Following the release of Splendor, Kimiko announces surprise N. American relief tour. Kimiko abducted in Calgary.
2029
Unity forces build up in Mexico, Morocco, and Manchuria. US forces deployed to Siberia and Spain.
Kimiko rescued by mercenary company from remote village in Cameroon. Shortly after her rescue, Kimiko publishes “Pillar” and releases apocalyptic rock opera, “Behold the Man”.

Gotta give Kimiko gravity somehow. It's Sci-Fi, so invent it - use the Italian guy, Antonio Baldini. None of that centrifugal/centripital stuff.
Q-ship - flesh it out a little. I've read so much Sci-Fi in my life that I can't imagine a new idea, so borrow something, something that has a failure potential in it.
