It shouldn't happen. I don't want a Bush-annointed candidate. We have the opportunity in this primary to correct all the mistakes made prior to this election that cost us.

Nor do we need status quo on the WOT if Gates-Baker is gonna be that status quo in '08. We need to breath new life into our offensive stance against the terrorists.

OK now I feel like a loon for getting all worked up over this stupid article.

Still, I've often wondered though who'd we get stuck with if Cheney's heart was to get too bad to have a doctor give him the go ahead on going back to work.

Our local Gannett paper wants both Cheney and Rove to resign.

Will never happen.

Yeah, that's what they said about Rumsfeld too.

I'll vote for Rudy Giuliani just to keep the Bush bashers trough filled :)

The meadia is really pushing McCain for 08. I have a tin foil hat theory. Media knows McCain is not well liked by the Pubbies. They want Hillary so the best way to get her in the WH is to push McCain.

I would thank the Lord above if Rudy was to become VP....He would be unbeatable for 2008....

I'm a former NY'er who stood when Rudy was our mayor during 9-11.....there is no better person in America to lead us now, NONE, and as VP Rudy would be visible everyday and the country and the World would see the great man he is.....

Go W, go, give Rudy the keys to the car....

The little bit of liberal he may have would never get in the way of the Eagle he is about the country.....

Richard Cheney does not want to go down in history as the Vice President forced to resign over an upopular war and his party's loss in a off-year election. And regardless of what the real reason might be that is the reason the media will hand on him.

Except that any replacement would have to be approved by the Senate (or perhaps the entire Congress - I don't recall).

Both houses per the 25th Amendment.

Getting rid of Cheney may or may not be a good idea, but his replacement does not have to be ok'ed by Congress.

Yes it does.

I agree - in fact as I have said elsewhere Bush sent that signal with having him in the photo ops last week with the Dems.

Normally though the VP attends most high level meetings the President has he leaves before the press arrives this time he stayed. Typical GWB and his advisers those on the Hill understand this message - Cheney stays.

We are still at war and will probably still be at war in 2008. A tough male preferably with military experience would be best but watch out Hillary in her Old Crusty pantsuit will do a good impression. This election proves how stupid most of the electorate is IMO, and I never thought I would say this but Hillary could get elected. As much as I don't like his social views Rudy would stand a good chance, expecially in carrying New York. Santorum would be awesome but the dems would just demonize him as an extremist. Romney would be my second choice. God help us if it's McCain or Hillary.

1) Cheney is not a quitter. He's not going anywhere.

2) As for naming someone as VP to annoint them for 2008, that cutesy crap never works in politics. People see right through it. DemocRats can get away with it in 'rat bastions like Philly or NJ where there are mindless robo-voters who vote for whomever the Democrats or unions say they should vote for, but it won't work nationwide (or for the GOP).
