The Prodigal Returns
Newsweek via MSNBC.msn.com ^ | November 20, 2006 | Jon Meacham

George Herbert Walker Bush is a proud father; tears easily come to his eyes when he thinks of his children, all of them, and there is gracious deference in his tone when he talks about the son he calls, with emphasis, "The President".

This shouldn't become a Bush bashing thread, but it most likely will.

My point is that NW has a cover pic of Bush41 very large and dominant in the foreground while Bush43 is pictured small and in the background, like a little boy. If it weren't so dumb and lame it would be funny. Bush41 - God love him - couldn't save his own Presidency. Whatever one thinks of his son and his Presidency, it is the son who has already loomed large in our history especially when compared to the chump change dad (and I like 41, that's not meant as an insult, just an oversimplified comparison).

As to Gates, Baker, et al, yesterday Dan Bartlett said 43 calls on people of experience to give him a wide variety of views and advice (like listening to Kissinger, which he does, doesn't mean Nixon will rise from the grave to "save him") so he can make the best decisions possible, and that a Gates in no way implies turning his administration over to his father or father's people or anyone else for that matter. Ya gotta laugh at this utter foolishness.

Oh, and my MSN homepage headline shortened this to say, "Can Bush Sr. Save His Son?"

Laugh or cry...a tossup.

Maybe just "ignore".

But first, I wanted to have my say about it.

Yes, most of the outlets are unfair, even silly, but ...
I won't say more.

Like the global warming stories assuming global warming is real, this story assumes that President George W. Bush's presidency needs saving.

Yo, MSM, go work on the clinton legacy some more, both of them.

Realism may have had some practical significance in the Cold War, but it has no place in a world where it preserves regimes who nurture and harbor terrorists. The only thing "real" will be the real mushroom cloud over Manhattan.

But I didn't change anything myself, I posted an exact title which was given the story at the link I provided...msnbc.msn.com. That's the first I had seen of this story at all. If I erred, I apologize. But I did NOT personally change the title I saw. Whoever made up THAT title must have changed it from the NW original.

I did NOT change any headline. I got the story from msnbc.msn.com. I used their title word for word. They must have changed the origninal NW headline to say THIS stupid thing.
