Staten Island, what has happened to you????
I knew the place would fall apart when I left...
"Staten Island, what has happened to you???? "
They're a mob of social LIBERALS.
Perfect, as another Islander (ona nd off since 1980!), I'm shocked and appalled that the Staten Island Advance (suitable for wrapping fish and training puppies) would lean in this direction. I'm not shocked at the gushing Guy Molinari (ever the opportunist). Mr. Molinari is, however, dreaming is he thinks McCain/Guiliani could get past the God, Guns and Gays coalition in any republican primary.
I'd take anything actually printed in the Advance with a huge grain of salt, however: I believe the real reason behind this article is to suggest a candidate or combination of candidates, that cannot win in order to damage the republican party. The Advance, in recent years, has become more and more a schill for the democratic party (and in this past election, endorsed every democrat running for a State Senate or Assembly seat. The only republican nod went to the Vito Fosella for Congress, simply because he ran virtually unopposed). The Advance's stands on the war on Terror would absolutely stun you: they have agreed with democrats that hearings should be held on the entire war, they agreed (vehemently!)with democrats on the Patriot Act and NSA wiretapping. The Advance does not even do any war reporting of it's own: it simply repeats what it picks up on the news wires (AP, for example) and reprints it.
The Advance, for several years now, has not provided opinions or editorial content that actually jibes with the general feelings or beliefs prevalent amongst Staten Islanders, and has advanced, instead, the views prevalent amongst it's corporate board (Newhouse Newspapers and Publishing). Check the editorial page and you'll see. If you're lucky, you might get one column a week from a Bill O'Reilly or a James Lileks, and that's about it. The rest of the time, the likes of Ellen Goodman (or worse, it's homegrown surrender-now-we-need-more-abortions-and-affirmative-action boosters, like Stevie Lacy-Pendleton)grace it's pages.
A McCain presidency would be like living under Mussolini, only less entertaining.
