CBS / AP) PHILADELPHIA A Philadelphia civic group and the city's top cop will hold a news conference Monday morning calling for an end to the bloodshed after an especially violent weekend.

Men United for a Better Philadelphia will join with Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson at 10 a.m. at Philadelphia's City Hall calling for a "Cease Fire" in neighborhoods plagued with violence. The location of the news conference is near the scene of one of the city's most recent shootings.

A man was wounded from gunfire in downtown Philadelphia, rounding out a deadly weekend with several unrelated fatal shootings around the city.

The downtown shooting happened Sunday afternoon at city hall, as people were crowded onto the Broad Street Subway to return from an Eagles game.

Police say a gunman shot a man in the back, then escaped onto the Market-Frankford Line. The victim was hospitalized.

A number of unrelated shootings kept both Philadelphia police and SEPTA transit police busy Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Three of the shootings turned into homicides bringing the total for the year to 354.

Just after 7 p.m. Saturday, 56-year-old Durell Marshall was shot and killed in Southwest Philadelphia.

Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday gunfire claimed the life of 18-year-old Kaire Oaks in West Philadelphia.

In Southwest Philadelphia, guns were blazing at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday when 21-year-old Jameel Clark was fatally wounded in West Philadelphia.

There is no one in custody in any of the three murders.

Philadelphia had 380 homicides last year and is on target to exceed that number this year.

It's time to appease the criminals and try to understand why they are so angry. That will end the violence.

Mayor John Street and Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson have no plan for victory in Philadelphia.

Have more Americans died in shooting in Philadelphia than in Iraq?

From the article: "... calling for a "Cease Fire" in neighborhoods plagued with violence. "

Liberals would rather surrender to the killers than fight them. Bush should bring the "War on Terror" to Philadelphia.

I'm willing to bet large sums of money that in the 13 of the 18 provinces in Iraq, I would be much safer than any night in Philly

"It's time to appease the criminals and try to understand why they are so angry. That will end the violence."

Oddly enough that is exactly what they are doing: Street and his gang is hiding behind criminal advocacy groups like Handgun Inc. Their plan for the violence from the third world savages in Philly and Pittsburgh is to disarm law-abiding folks in the outlying regions of rural Pennsylvania.

I think we should send Kennedy and Kerry into Philly and let them sit down and have a peaceful talk with the insurgents....I know they could calm things down after an eveing of marshmellows and hot dogs and songs by the camp fire (sarcasm)

I have a question for our Philly Freepers. Are you angered at the portrayal of your town on CBS's Cold Case? That show makes it seeem that Philly was, outside of Selma, the most racist city in America right up thru the 80s. I'd be ticked off if NYC was portrayed in such a negative manner. And the portrayal on American Dreams wasn't any more positive.

Exactly. I was thinking today as I watched a couple minutes of CNN's 24 hours "Guts on the Ground" newscast in a waiting room today...what if there were thousands of reporters, photographers & movie cameras in a major US city searching for bad news. I thought of DC, since it is our capitol, but Philly would work too.

So, every car crash, fire, stray dog, smashed squirrel, shooting, robbery, fist fight...everything...is covered on the news in a continuous loop.

How fast would we pull out of that city?

Killing them just spawns more of them. Time to redeploy Murtha. Hopefully his lardess will absorb some of the high velocity lead particles.

Yep third world: I said it and stand behind it. Why don't you take a stroll through the most urbanized parts of Philly sometime if you want to prove me wrong. I'm sure your wonderful liberal buddies will show you their version of freelance socialism. Of course you won't; you'll just flame people on here.
