McCarthy lacked charisma, was definitely not telegenic, and he was a heavy drinker -- but he was consistently accurate, history has proved. Ditto the Vietnam war veteran critics of Kerry (the consistently accurate part).
Not to disparage Kerry's service(s); but after all though Benedic Arnold proved that you could be a hero to both sides in the same war it's not generally an honor.
