"Also not every kid got a brand new spanking car at 16. I am amazed. In many states Such as Georgia and Louisiana you dont even have to pay for your kids college tution anymore if they have average grades. I suspect that money is being spent somewhere else too"

I think some states used their tobacco settlement money to set up tuition assistance programs.

I'm amazed at how often people remodel their houses.
Just when the new kitchen is broken in - it's "out of date" , the colors all wrong and appliances obsolete.

Folks sometimes wonder why more Catholics don't vote Republican ... if the sleazeballs on this and similar threads are exemplary of Republicans, why should Catholics vote for them?

(Still doesn't excuse voting for pro-abort 'Rats ... but that's a separate issue.)

The Cardinal's silly comparison of the border fence to the Berlin Wall strips him of any credibiltiy on this issue. Maybe we could ship illegals over to the Vatican.

Well, I love your handle, too. Not that it really says anything about you.

You are in no position to whine about keeping it clean.

Believe it or not, but the way one decorates your kitchen and bathrooms determine whether it is an upscale home. You can have low-end cabinets with granite tops. Spend a little on water and light fixtures. No reason to change it, unless you want to waste money.

I'm a catholic and it gets me going - it affected my life and the lives of friends of mine.
Having said that....it has nothing to do with the fact that Cardinal Martino's opinions are his personal opinions. He is not "the vatican" - and in the past he has uttered some pretty stupid statements.

Every religion has people who publicly claim to belong - but who don't personally follow it or agree with it.

This statement about the wall shouldn't be considered "from the Vatican" unless the Pope says it is.

The Vatican, of course, benefits from Italy's maintenance of its national borders. You have to have a passport to get across those.

The Vatican is the most closed City in the World.

Take it to DU.

The spirit of some of the posts on this thread certainly seems reminiscent of the stench that emanates from there.

"If the Vatican was not so opposed to birth control, maybe we would not need a fence."

I don't think the Vatican's position on birth control is the issue or part of the problem.

The fertility rate of Mexico is 2.42, Ireland is 1.86, Italy is 1.28. The US is 2.09. (According to the CIA World Factbook)

The real problem is too many Vatican officials reflexively deeming every action of the U.S. as wrong, evil or inhumane. A little intellectual reflection would do this Cardinal wonders. He might be better to ask why it is that the world's predominantly Catholic countries are backwaters of corruption and poverty and why it is that the people of these countries have historically done whatever they could to come to our great nation.

So you guys are tired/upset because I am an not accurate. Well I am tired because the Catholic Church, Rome, The Pope, everyone, even you are trying to shove all the abuses under the rug... and keep quiet.. and I WILL NOT LET THEM. It's that simple.

Me? You don't know anything about me!
I reported one of them.
I support a catholic group who pressures accountability from bishops.
I have not kept quiet - nor will I ever.

Well, no, it isn't that simple because a few instances of abuse (no matter how horrible) shouldn't stain the entire institution.
