I can't say that it was a stupid move. I have a personal love of 'island living'....though my favorite ones are in the Mediterranean ...but I could live in Hawaii and never miss the mainland pretty easily....

I didn't know that. I for one always thought that Moose was given an unfair rap during the DC sniper bit. Especially here on FR. I think many are a bit too quick to criticize from the armchair. I also think most of us would look like idiots when unexpectedly thrust into the center of a media circus.

The military is more of a meritocracy than any other organization. At the lower ranks, it's more what you do, than who you know, that counts because there are so many other junior officers and the board is not likely to know who you are.
