He may be right about certain parts of LA and I am almost certain there are parts of every town, city, state that are bad, to paint a broad stroke to say a state is a cesspool is not right. Where would you prefer to live Alabama or California?

And from this point on, things are only going to get worse.

Have an acquaintance in AL with same problem in several local
school systems. He always got class grade averages raised
considerly but was terminated after a year or so. Trouble
makers were not handled according to wishes of supervisors,
promoted for incompendence, as apparently SOP in school and much gov't castle builders careers.

Chalk it up to the leftist teachers unions whose goal is the destruction of America while being paid to do it. However, they are no different than any other union.

We all ponder why the MSM is so leftist. So have I. Recently, I have begun to wonder what influence the unions have on the media, especially the print media.

I remember an article years ago about the abuses of the Teamsters union against newspapers and when they didn't get their way they refused to allow the papers to be delivered to the distributors. There are many other unions throughout the newspaper organizations. What influence do these leftists have on the output of the papers?

I teach ESL in a middle school in Los Angeles, just east of Hollywood. I'm lucky: my students are mostly Hispanic. They're wild, they're undisciplined, they're unmotivated, some of them are in gangs... but for the most part, they aren't hostile to me because I'm white. And my principal, while softer on crime than I would be, is very supportive. When she retires next year, I'm going to be very uneasy waiting to see what her replacement is going to be like.

I just wanna say that I teach at a poor school in Jackson, MS, and I love it. Its all black kids, and I'm a white teacher, but if these kids know that you really are there for them, and your principal is a butt-kicker, you love it.

This is what I posted on a thread on election day:

This country is going to hell and a hand basket. We've got so much trash in this country. This is a true story from today. I took my parents to vote. A woman with hair that would make Cynthia McKinney's look tame walked up--very disheveled with her clothes. Looked like she had just got out of bed. She was with an older man. They started talking with another woman in line. The woman with the crazy do said out loud something about Republicans not believing in God then went on to say that they better let her vote. They let illegals vote so they better let her vote and if they didn't she would burn the place down because she's from the hood. Of course she didn't have the card she was supposed to have so they let her fill out a provisional ballot. Hopefully her "informed" opinion won't count. This is what votes for Democrats. This is the face and mind of the Democrat party and it wasn't pretty inside or out.

How much learning gets done since they are not focused on getting an education?

Not only do some students fully deserve a physical beat down (in school, by adults, in full view of their peers), oftentimes they would benefit from it, in the long term. I know our society certainly would. I always said that the one thing that would bring these animals back into the human fold would be public humiliation such as stocks as they had back in the early colonial days. if there is one thing these hoods can't abide it is to be "Dissed" and what is worse than to be "Dissed" in front of everyone you know?

__________________

While this is true. There is also a decent chance that the humiliation will lead to the murder of the humiliator.

Wow. Thanks for posting that story. Just devastating. The left wants schools to be held hostage to the criminal element. America needs to abandon the "right to an education" mentality that, ironically, keeps the bad children undisciplined and in school, thus robbing the good children of a chance for an education. There needs to be an "open door" mentality instead. As in, if you are going to behave, come to school, the door is open. If you chronically misbehave, leave, the door is open and don't come back.

If we had basic sixth grade literacy tests, the democrats would lose about 20% to 40% of their voters.

Thanks for sticking up for Calif.

Personally, I am sick and tired of every gap toothed yahoo in the country bashing our state.

If this were in NYC, which it easily have been, there would not have been a tasteless comment about the entire state.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

These things don't just happen in the inner city. The things described in this article are going on at my school, AND in my classroom. I break up fights on a daily basis, and the students throw rocks at me almost as often. Of course, none of the other students will rat out the guilty party.

I could write a similar story, just as long, about the things that I have to endure daily. I've had my classroom vandalized, my grade book stolen, and I've been "counseled" for various offenses I've supposedly commited against my students. Their lying upsets me more than anything else. I know these kids are trying to get me to quit or get fired. But I stay, if for no other reason, to not give them that satisfaction.
