1) Principles mean nothing, it's all about winning.
2) Moral convictions make you out of touch and unrealistic, we just need to win!
3) If you insist on sticking to your conservative values, prepare to be insulted and challenged.
"we want change. We want someone who will rise above partisan politics and get things done "
Rudy will bring in enough moderates, indys, and Reagan democrats that the "religious right" can stay home and it won't matter a stuff.
That's simple. Just vote for Harry Reid or Bob Kerry.
He better as he will alienate social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, and Regan republicans. He may do well in the east, but in the south and middle America, a big New York City immoral moderate won't play well. But then he may get enough anti-hillary votes to win, but he surely wont get enough pro-rudy votes.
I would imagine that his running mate will make up for any perceived shortcomings.
If Giuliani is nominated, I hope the GOP is prepared to go it alone -- without the support and votes of their base.
Pro-abortion, gun-grabbing and pro-homosexual marriage views are going to send the media slobbering and the GOP packing for yet another four years.

Where do I begin. Let's start with pro-homo. He's AGAINST gay marriage. Now as far as homos go, personally, I disagree with their life style but as long as they do what they do in the privacy of their own home I don't care and nobody else should either, especially not the federal government. As far as abortion goes, we have a pro-life President now but we are still having abortions. No president has the power to stop abortion. Rudy has already said he supports strict constructionist judges like John Roberts and if he does that then maybe Roe v. Wade will get overturned. But even if it does get overturned I hope you're not naive enough to think that would stop all abortions. The abortion issue would then revert back to the states and do you really think California would outlaw abortions? Being pragmatic in our thinking we all know we can't completely stop abortions. So therefore this point is basically moot. As far as anti-gun goes, he's not going to push for more gun control. Are the Democrats doing that now? No. Nobody has since the 2000 election and nobody will. Now lets review history. World War II ended in 1945. SEVEN years later in 1952 the most popular general of the war, Dwight Eisenhower, won in a landslide despite far right extremist Republicans not supporting him in the primaries. History always repeats itself.
I remember that. There was also collateral damage form his divorce and a garbage scandal or something. I think the statute of limitations [and 9/11] would clear minds about him now.
Do you REALLY believe that?
As for the social conservatives, catering exclusively to them was part of the reason why the GOP lost this round.
I like Rudy.
I admire him.
I'll even bet he's a really good guy.
However, if he is the republican candidate for president, I won't vote for him.
period.
These are the people who are out to destroy the Republican Party. Don't blame the coming 2008 losses on Conservatives.
In short they lost because they ran in 04 to the right but ruled to the left.
With this sort of arrogance, I hope you end up with Hillary Clinton.
I like the way all the Pro-Rudy people just brush off things like scandals, broken marriages, adultery, and his association with criminals and think the opposition and the voters will just forget all that just because he was mayor on 9-11.
Arrogance? Hey you in the back, get with the program!
You don't think there'd be mass forgiveness of his baggage? I do.
The obstacle I see is abortion.
A "Moderate in Name Only".
Favorite Supreme Court Justice? Antonin Scalia. He lauds John Roberts and Sam Alito as originalist judges he'd appoint to the court.
Economic philosophy? Cutting taxes is the only way to grow the economy. "agrees with Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush that tax cuts are a powerful stimulus to the economy - that's why I cut taxes 23 times as Mayor of New York."
Limited government? Thinks government has spent too much. Wants Congress to get serious now about fiscal discipline.
School Choice? For it and for holding public schools to much higher standards.
"The war on terror is not about "red" versus "blue" states - it is about right versus wrong; it is about good overcoming evil."
