So the Religious Right doesn't like Rudy, doesn't like Mormon Romney, doesn't like McCain, doesn't like Newt.

Looks like Clinton '08!

Religous Right?? Hardly. But we CONSERVATIVES like Newt. The rest are NOT conservatives. At the same time, I think most, like myself, will support WHOMEVER it takes to keep the Marxist Witch out of the White House...the impact of that is so ugly, it is beyond the nightmare stage.

You forgot Hagel, who was right on Iraq (unlike the rest) and pro-free market/anti-tax (unlike the rest).

Newt is unfortunately unelectable.
As for the rest, I don't like any of them.
I like Hitlery even less.
I will vote for any of the three.
I would vote for Attila the Hun before I vote for Hillary.

For a Republican to win it is essential that both Christian conservatives are excited and libertarians in general are excited about the candidate. From a political perspective, there is a fair amount of commonality between the two. You shouldn't steal private property, and you shouldn't covet private property provide the philosophical basis for both views of economics. Even most libertarians agree that killing innocent human life is murder and there is a basis for some limited government for the purpose of justice in society.

Rudy clearly has gifts in the area of administration. But his stance on abortion, or the killing of innocent human life will alienate a large percentage of conservative votes.

Many conservative Christians view Mormonism as a cult. This is alienate votes as well.

Newt is clearly gifted at formulating conservative policy in concise popular terms. Personal character related to faithfulness in marriage matters to many Republicans. It is harder for conservatives as there are higher standards. Liberals simply don't care unless they can point to conservatives who are hypocrites.

Anyone reading freerepublic can observe that Sen McCain has alienated his base. The special interest effect is correctly articulated in terms of economic. [ex $100 and 101 people] Small groups of people robbing public money [ex $100 for 1 person] for relatively large amounts per person or group and large groups with little incentive to vote against it as the amount per person is much less [100 people $1 per person]. It is not an issue related to free speech just before an election. The special interest effect is actually a case for limited government, not for removal of a constitutional right to speak out before an election. How can one expect McCain to uphold and defend the constitution?

There are several outstanding Republican governors, congressman and senators who would make outstanding candidates. The problem isn't that there are no other candidates who would run a strong race. The problem lies with the liberal media picking their favorite republican before the primaries. A candidate that will excite Christian conservatives, and libertarians will not excite the main stream media.
