BAGHDAD
-- Iraqi Soldiers are striving to improve security and living conditions throughout neighborhoods here and throughout Iraq.

Iraqi Army Soldiers and National Policemen delivered more than 1,000 boxes of food, 70 boxes of school supplies and toys to local children and families Nov. 11 at the Khadra Neighborhood Advisory Council.

Soldiers from 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, along with policemen from 5th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, delivered the much-needed supplies to assist local residents and to bolster confidence in the Iraqi Security Force.

Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, provided perimeter security during the supply drop.

Also Nov. 11, Iraqi Soldiers responded to the scene of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonation on a busy market street in the Rusafa neighborhood.

As a result of the explosion, 10 Iraqi civilians were killed and 30 were wounded.

Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, aided in the evacuation of the citizens to a local hospital and provided security before turning the area over to the Iraqi policemen who subsequently cleared the area.

Iraqi Army Soldiers and Policemen will receive new American counterparts as Multi-National Division - Baghdad transfers authority from 4th Infantry Division to 1st Calvary Division during a ceremony at Camp Liberty.
