Abramoff allegedly names Reid

WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Investigators probing convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff's dealings with U.S. congressional members said Abramoff allegedly named Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.

A spokesman for Reid said the Senate's next majority leader has done nothing illegal or unethical, ABC News said.

"We have no idea what Abramoff is telling prosecutors to save his skin but I do know that these kind of old allegations are completely ridiculous and untrue," spokesman Jim Manley told ABC News.

A source close to the investigation told ABC that Abramoff alleged that more than $30,000 in campaign contributions to Reid came from Abramoff's clients. The lobbyist reportedly claimed that Reid agreed to help on Indian gambling issues, ABC said.

The source said prosecutors would not rely only on Abramoff's account and that his allegations against Reid and others will not necessarily mean criminal charges would be filed, ABC said.

Abramoff, who reported to federal prison Wednesday, was sentenced in connection with guilty pleas involving a casino boat gambling scheme. He also is awaiting sentencing for corruption involving government officials and their staff members. He is cooperating with federal investigators looking into corruption in the legislative and executive branches.

Wouldn't that be a hoot - getting the brand new Senate Majority leader stuck in a criminal trial, and forced to resign? Does Nevada have a Repub. governor?

BTW, I heard on Hannity a couple days ago that Reid owns about 160 acres just a couple miles from a federally-funded bridge that's been built there for no apparent reason. His property is now worth considerably more than when purchased because of this. Corrupt SOB, he deserves time in jail.

I'm sure we will be able to read more on page D-34 of the NY Times or Wash Post.

Funny if he named Trent Lott it would run above the fold.

Someone please list the garbage in Nancy Pelosi's house. Time to use the Liberal playbook for the next two years. Turnabout should be great fun.

If the Republicans had b****, every time the Drive-By Media attacked one of them, they would all rise up in unison and shout, "Yeah, well what about Reid (or whomever)". Shove it right back at them.

If the Republicans had b****.

This will be buried shortly, no way a Dim goes down due to Abramoff. This scandle is purely a Republican issue, just ask the press.

The President could give him 6 months off his time for every Democrat he provides evidence of a crime, with a minimum of 8 since the President can't give a pardon after he leaves office.

The guy is dirty. Throw the book at him. Wasn't it... throw out the garbage... clean house? Well, let's get busy. There's a lot of crude in the hallways.""

Both crud and crude.

Dirty Harry is one of my Nevada senators, and I cannot stand him. If he needed to use the bathroom, I would lock the gate. He has NOT represented ALL of Nevada, only the southern part, where his kids and other relatives and himself have massive investments in developments.

I'm losing count. Does Reid have three serious ethical issues? I have the following:

- The dealings with Abramoff
- Las Vegas land sale
- Bullhead City bridge to increase the value of land he owns ""

He is trying to TAKE 1/2 or more of WATER RIGHTS out of Northern Nevada and PIPE it 470+ miles to Southern Nevada- Clark and Lincoln counties- where all his family, himself, and his cronies have massive development companies. No rules down there for manadatory "desert" landscaping, either. TAKE the water-which is OWNED by Northern Nevada private property owners- and use it to be able to continue to build and landscape with grass houses and casinos in Las Vegas and area.

Ah yes......But Democrats have already established the precedent, it's the SERIOUSNESS of the charges that matter. Not if it can be proved or not..

Reid must go....

Does Nevada have a Repub. governor?

Yes. Outgoing and incoming. If Reid bites the dust, the GOP could regain control of the Senate the big "D" Democrat way, through scandal. Maybe getting rid of some of the "ethically challenged" GOP deadwood was a good thing.

Harry spends a lot of time saying he's "done nothing illegal or unethical".
