Meanwhile, student activists were organizing a midday rally today to protest the incident, and the Southern California office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations called for an independent investigation.

Set up or not. Liberal, Communist, Christian, Jew or Atheist, the use of tazers is wrong. The wimpy student was no match for the several police officers. The more comfortable the police are with this sadism the more they will use it and want further blood lust. We have lost America. This obviously was no Rodney King and lying on the floor in a peaceable fashion does not constitute resisting police. The LAPD has a history of violation of its power and clearly this act of violence threatens us all. Many innocent people have died from these evil weapons. We are on the slippery slope to a police state. If this video does not trouble you it is time to check your heart and conscience. The culture of death has affected your judgment. The more we witness crimes against humanity and cruel and unusual abuses of power the more desensitized we become to that which is unacceptable. The cops were wrong. How does one set up the police to use excessive force??? I live in NYC where the cops face real threats every minute of every day and they police dept here does not use these inhuman devices. Satan himself is smiling as he watches this sick video. God help our once great nation.

yeah. cops do have a tendency to be like that up here in the stix.. But i'm sure the kid knew what he was getting into when we started it. and I'm willing to bet that he told his buddy's that he would tell the cops "no" the next time they asked him..

WHY would he not show his ID? He gave reason for concern, especially after 9/11. Glad I don't live in LA.

I have a unique perspective here. My Uncle was killed 11 years before I was born as a police officer trying to bust a drug dealer. I also graduated from UCLA this summer. My cousins grew up with no father. My brother is also a police officer. When police officers use extreme force, it is warranted. It is an absolute rule that all people in Powell library past 11pm must present ID. This person resisted arrest and provoked the situation. I feel that the UCPD acted as they should and any protest otherwise is compromising the ability of the police to act as they are tasked.

DAMN!!!! How do I get in on this deal? Have to have Iranian parents? Many Iranians are fairly light skinned. I'd love to see what this scammer looks like. Not to mention he should be grateful he was even allowed to be born here in the first place. Punks like him should be drop kicked back to the "Islamic Republic"

I watched the video and am very disappointed by the officers response. They, at a minimum, should have also RodneyKinged this guy for at least 15 minutes. Trouble making little maggot!

LOS ANGELES -- A cell phone captured video of a 23-year-old student being administered multiple Taser shocks by UCLA police on Tuesday.

The UCLA student was hit with the Taser shocks multiple times while he was in the Powell Library Computer Lab.

Another student recorded the incident on a camera phone. On the video, Mostafa Tabatabainejad can be heard screaming during the incident, which took place at about 11:30 p.m., the Daily Bruin reported.

According to the paper, Tabatabainejad did not show ID to community service officers who were conducting a random check. UCLA police said Tabatabainejad was released by police after he was cited for obstruction/delay of a peace officer in the performance of duty.

The Daily Bruin reported that Tabatabainejad complained when an officer was escorting him from the lab and put his hand on one of Tabatabainejad's arms. He allegedly yelled, "Get off of me," according to the paper. He was then shot with the Taser, reported the paper.

The Daily Bruin reported that after he was hit, Tabatabainejad yelled, "Here's your Patriot Act, here's your f---ing abuse of power."

Police said they thought Tabatabainejad was not harmed in the incident.

"If he was able to walk out of here, I think he was OK," the sergeant said.

He said that Tabatabainejad, when asked for his ID after 11 p.m. Tuesday, declined because he thought he was being singled out because of his Middle Eastern appearance. Yagman said Tabatabainejad is of Iranian descent but is a U.S.-born resident of Los Angeles.

A "U.S.-born resident of Los Angeles" should know better than anyone that when the police tell you stand up or sit down, YOU DO IT!!!

And as a black man, pal, lemme tell you something -- when people who look like you act like a-holes on a regular basis, people will make presumptions about you. It is at that point you have to make a decision; do you want to break the cycle of unfair stereotypes, or do you want to act like an a-hole since they think you are anyway?

You took the latter path, and you've got scars to show for it. You deserve each one of them. Don't look to me for sympathy, you won't get it. In short, I don't CAIR.

Oh, please--in other stories Voter photo ID is blocked by activist judges. Can one really have it both ways?

Moral of story. Cops ask you for your ID, present it and keep your mouth shut. Screaming about the Patriot Act and going limp is not going to endear you to the police.

Here's the solution. The university should install double gates on all entrances to common buildings, double gates like in prisons. To gain entrance, each student has to pass their ID to a guard who then opens the first gate. When the student is inside the first gate and that gate is closed, then the inner gate is opened for the student to walk inside.

Same procedure for exiting.

There, now everyone is treated equally, and there's no profiling.

How do these animals like those apples?

If the student had simply produced his ID and simply cooperated with the police, then he would have not have been tazered. Simple as that.

Tazers are simply harmless. It is just a little shock.
