(SomaliNet) Powerful Islamic Courts Union has on thursday imposed a curfew on the Somalia capital Mogadishu following violent protests raged in the city today in which one person has been killed and others were wounded.
The curfew was announced by Islamist's security chief for Banadir province Abdulahi Ali Nahar knowns as Abu-Uteiba who addressed in public square in the capital near where the Khat leafy was burnt today shortly after it was delivered at Mogadishu main airport.
"The curfew is starting from tonight 8:00 to 5:00 local time and we are telling the people to stay at thier homes with our troops are scattered to everywhere in the capital to tight the security and prevent any more violence.
He said the move was taken to ease the tension as the fighters of Islamic Courts are now trying to restore the normalcy.
The dead person was said to be a woman who among the protestors mainly women Khat dealers.
Reports say the casualities came after Islamic security forces opened fire in the air to desperse the crowd.
it was for the second time that Islamic Courts set blaze on more expensive Khat in two consecative days.
On wednesday Islamic Courts burnt 21 sacks of Khat leafy worth of $40,000 in Siinka Dheer area in the outskirt of Mogadishu capital. the Khat was flown from Hargeisa, the capitla of the self declared republic of Somaliland.
All the Khat kiosks were reportedly closed in part of Islamic Courts efforts to eliminate the sale of Khat which was popular drug leafy among Somalis for decades.
Many Somali men and women use the narcotic leafy of Khat to gain stimulant and activeness while thousands of families depend on the trade of Khat. It became part of daily life inpartly Somalia.
