Draft Lynne Cheney
Conservartive Life ^ | 11/20/2006 | intendedconsequences

Posted on 11/20/2006 2:28:00 PM PST by intendedconsequences

I firmly believe in the electability and core morality, skills and intellectual power of Lynne Cheney and of course her husband Dick. Here is some info on Lynne Cheney from Wiki (ugh) and the White House.

PLEASE JOIN ME IN WRITING TO YOUR LOCAL PAPERS, BLOGS, CONGRESSMAN AND CONCERNED CONSERVATIVES IN THIS EFFORT TO ASK LYNNE CHENEY TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IN 2008.

Born in Casper, Wyoming, to Wayne and Edna (Lybyer) Vincent, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors from Colorado College, Master of Arts from the University of Colorado, and a Ph.D. in 19th century British literature from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, has loved history for as long as she can remember, and she has spent much of her professional life writing and speaking about the importance of knowing history and teaching it well. Lynne Cheney has had her own career in public service, having served as chairwoman of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1986 to 1993. In 1995 she founded American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a conservative group that monitors American colleges and academia.

She is a senior fellow in education and culture at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. She also serves as a director of Reader's Digest Association, Inc.

From 1995 to 1998, Cheney served as a co-host of the Sunday edition of CNN's Crossfire, replacing Tony Snow.

Lynne Cheney served on Lockheed Corporation's board of directors from 1994 to 2001, a $120,000-a-year post she gave up shortly before her husband's inauguration; Cheney served on the board's Finance, and Nominating and Corporate Governance committees. [1] [2]

In 2000 she was mentioned as a possible conservative female pick for Republican Vice Presidential nominee on the George W. Bush ticket. Bush, however, chose her husband for a running mate.

She has repeatedly spoken out against violent and sexually explicit lyrics in popular music; she has also criticized video game makers for similar content, while writing a book "Sisters" about lesbian affairs and rape. This prompted Eminem to ridicule her and her husband in his songs and music videos.

[edit] Family Dick and Lynne Cheney have two children, daughters Elizabeth and Mary, and three granddaughters (Kate, Elizabeth, and Grace) and one grandson Philip.

Liz was born July 28, 1966, and is married with four children. She graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 1996 and has worked as an international law attorney, consultant, and now for the State Department's Near East Affairs Bureau.

Their daughter Mary was born March 14, 1969. She is now an open lesbian and lives with her partner Heather Roan Poe (born April 11, 1961) in Virginia. Mary is one of her father's top campaign aides and closest confidantes. In July 2003 she became the director of vice presidential operations for the Bush-Cheney 2004 Presidential re-election campaign. Until May of 2000 she was the lesbian/gay corporate relations manager for the Coors Brewing Company. She is currently working on a book about her work with her father.

As chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1986 to 1993, she published American Memory, a report that warned about the failure of schools to transmit knowledge of the past to upcoming generations. "A system of education that fails to nurture memory of the past denies its students a great deal," Mrs. Cheney wrote: "the satisfactions of mature thought, an attachment to abiding concerns, a perspective on human existence." Currently, as a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, she particularly emphasizes the value of knowing our nation's history. "One of the important lessons we can learn is that freedom isn't inevitable," she says. "This realization should make the liberty we enjoy all the more important to us, all the more worth defending."

Mrs. Cheney announced a new initiative to encourage historical knowledge in April 2003. She launched the James Madison Book Award Fund, which presents a yearly award of $10,000 to the book that best represents excellence in bringing knowledge and understanding of American history to young people. The 2004 winner was American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793 by Jim Murphy.

Mrs. Cheney has written articles about history for numerous publications on topics ranging from woman suffrage in the West and the way Americans celebrated the country's centennial. She was a member of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitution and served on Texas Governor George W. Bush's education team. She was part of a group that revised Texas standards for the study of history.

She is author or co-author of eight books, including Kings of the Hill (second edition, 1996, Simon & Schuster), a book about political figures, among them Henry Clay and Sam Rayburn, who played powerful roles in the House of Representatives. She wrote this book with her husband, who was a Congressman from Wyoming from 1979 to 1989. Mrs. Cheney's 1995 book, Telling the Truth (Simon & Schuster), analyzed the effect of postmodernism on study in the humanities.

Recently, Mrs. Cheney has written three books of American history for children. The first, America: A Patriotic Primer, released in May 2002, is an alphabet book for children of all ages and their families that celebrates the ideas and ideals that are the foundations of our country. The second, A Is for Abigail: An Almanac of Amazing American Women, published September 2003, tells the story of women's contributions to American history. Her third, When Washington Crossed the Delaware: A Wintertime Story for Young Patriots, released in October 2004, is a straightforward yet elegant retelling of the dramatic military campaign that began on Christmas night, 1776. Mrs. Cheney's net proceeds from her three best-selling books are being donated to charity.

Mrs. Cheney earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors from Colorado College, her Master of Arts from the University of Colorado, and her Ph.D. with a specialization in 19th-Century British literature from the University of Wisconsin. She is the recipient of awards and honorary degrees from numerous colleges and universities.

Vice President and Mrs. Cheney were married in 1964. They have two grown daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, three granddaughters, and a grandson.

As much as I would love to see Lynne Cheney run for President, she cannot overcome the negative (right or wrong) image of her husband. The Cheney name is too polarizing to stand any kind of chance to win a plurality of votes.

As much as I respect Lynne Cheney as being the classy, headstrong, and outspoken wife of the vice president, one would think out of 300 million people there would be better choices for electable candidates that don't carry the same name-association political baggage.

As compelling of a conservative speaker as Lynne Cheney obviously is, she has exactly zero experience in elected office. Get elected governor, Lynne, and then give it a shot.

Pass, Can we please get a candidate for smaller government instead of these Nanny Staters. Over pandering to the religious right was part of the reason we lost.

Frankly I find the fact that she never had to whore herself for office to be appealing. The only other Republican of note with a similar appeal may be Condi Rice. But Rice is too much of a lapdog for Dubya and here conservative credentials not as strong. (Although I do lover her "2nd Amendment Absolutist" statement!)

As for the name Cheney being baggage. Frankly, it's better than being a Bush.

I think ignoring the religious right at the expense of the moderates and libs was a mistake. I'm all for smaller govt.
As for here stance on music and video games. She doesn't call for govt interference, but self regulation and morality by the industry as well as more active and responsible parenting. I don't want a nanny state telling my kids what they can and can not see either.

I'd love to see Mrs Cheney as Pres. But that Fantasy game will not play on any given Sunday.

Condi Rice is the only "non-candidate" who would be viable. Given the money and name recognition situation, it will be hard for any dark horse to overtake Newt, Mitt, Rudy and John.

Brownback? Pataki? Huckabee? Shannon Dougherty? Not likely.
